1[ST] MORTIMER SCOUT GROUP Established in 1910 Education Charity No 1192605 Independent Scouting for the 21[st] Century
Trustees Mr Neil Johnson (Chair) Mr Lindsey Hood, Mr Julian Dodson.
Report prepared by Mr Neil Johnson
Another good year for the group with good numbers in our Beaver and Cub sections and improving Numbers in our Scout section along with a thriving and enthusiastic Rover crew.
Several successful camps , outings and expeditions have been held throughout the year all of which have been enjoyed by everyone.
After much delay due to Covid we held our first Skip Johnson Memorial Hike competition which was very well received and we were pleased that several local Scout groups entered teams. Despite the aweful weather the event was a great success.
The Group has attended and supported several local events in the village fullfilling our Groups promise of service to the community.
As shown in our accounts the group is in a very stable and secure position thanks not only to our increase in numbers and local fund raising but also to the great support we have received from our Parish council , Mortimer Village Partnership and West Berks District Council.
The investment of funds and effort in the refurbishment of our garage and store facilities is nearing completion the new facilities will not only provide us with warm and dry storage but also a new Rover Den/ Break out room which will help us improve the way we deliver our scouting programme to our young people.
Discussions are continuing with the trustees of the Alfred Palmer Memorial Field about the transfer of the small piece of land that we currently rent from them , all parties are in full agreement so we are now working along with the charity commision on the legalities.
In conclusion as we enter our 114[th] year the Group continues to thrive and on behalf of myself and my fellow trustees we would like to thank all of our leadrship team for there continued enthusism and commitment to the Group.
