## **Annual Report 2023/24**

This year has seen us put on a wide variety shows. _**We’ll Meet Again**_ in June 2023 _**,**_ featured popular songs from WW2 linked by a central storyline about two families and their wider community's experiences between 1939 and 1945.  The show was conceived and written inhouse and was originally intended to be performed in 2020 to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the end of the war, but Covid intervened. This was followed by _**Annie Jnr**_ in October (performed by the Junior theatre workshop) and our pantomime _**Puss in Boots,**_ again written and produced in-house was in February. The good news is that all three shows this year were popular, successful and made a profit. 

Other highlights included many concerts by our choir ‘Little Voices’. 

Away from shows, work continues to take place on the society’s home, Adastra house. Costumes are being re-sorted and make-up has been renewed. In the autumn last year, we started with a sort out of properties, throwing away a lot of damaged items and other things no longer required. 

A big piece of work was to bring up to date our various policies: new work was needed for children’s performances which had to be completed before Annie was staged. We completed this to the required standard of Shropshire Council’s new Children in Work officer despite very short notice 

This year has been a very expensive one for the Society, resulting in a net deficit of some £9,700. This is wholly due to essential repairs to the roof and cyclic external decoration of Adastra, together costing £12,250. The total cost of Adastra this year was £16,839. 

In addition the minimum hire charge for the Festival Centre Auditorium, where are shows are performed,  has increased from £700 per show to £850 from 2024. Although this is a large increase, it has been held at £700 since 2015. The actual cost continues on the previous basis of 20% of the ticket sales or the minimum charge, whichever is the greater. 

These increased costs have lead to a decision by the Trustees to raise ticket prices by a small amount.
