## **Market Drayton Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society (MDAODS) CIO 1192602** ## **Annual Report 2022/23** The 2022/3 season saw our first return to the stage after COVID since February 2020. Our first production ‘Our Favourite Things’ – June 2022 - was a modest concert type show (to keep costs minimal) offered at a reduced price to encourage our audiences to return to local live theatre. This proved very encouraging and set us in good stead for the remainder of the year. In October 2022 we produced ‘The Vicar of Dibley – The Second Coming’. This was well received and well attended bringing our audience numbers back near to pre-COVID level. To round off the season we returned to our very popular pantomime which again was a great success and saved us considerable outlay due to it being home written. Audiences were slightly down on pre-COVID but very encouraging for the future. Membership has steadily grown over the year, although we are trying hard to encourage younger members to join. Nevertheless, our ‘Junior Theatre Workshop’ (8yrs-16yrs) is thriving and planning to produce their own show for October 2023 Our ‘Little Voices’ choir continues to be very popular with our members. They were first back after COVID, managing to rehearse more easily with social distancing and have now reached an excellent standard which is in constant demand for local events. On a slightly less upbeat note we discovered our building (parts of which date back to 1807!) requires some fairly costly maintenance work which will need to be carried out next year, but thankfully we have funds to cover it. Our Trustees (Committee) have had several changes over the year and it is very encouraging to see a younger generation keen to be involved in the running of the society. Finally, we have a full list of shows planned for 2023/4, including a home written musical, a Junior Theatre Workshop show and the usual pantomime and we look forward to a successful year with COVID behind us.
