**Market Drayton Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society (1192602)** ## **Charity Commission Annual Report 2021-22** ## **General** Due to covid, this year has been a relatively quiet one for the Society. Our planned programme of shows had to be cancelled because, as a small society, we could not take the risk of laying out monies on scripts and performing rights only to have to cancel at short notice because of losing cast members to covid at the last minute. On the positive side we have changed our charitable status from an unincorporated charity to a CIO, a process which turned out to be more complicated than we thought, but an important one to protect the financial liability of our trustees and allow us better control of our building (Adastra House). In addition we have finally managed to return to the stage with a very well received concert after 28 months of not being able to perform. One of our main drives now is to recruit new members since numbers have dwindled over the pandemic for obvious reasons. ## **Financial** As reported last year, in 2020/21 Adastra House attracted a Government one-off grant of £10,000. A second unexpected one-off grant, loosely based on Adastra’s rateable value, delivered another £2,667 this year. These receipts have protected the Society’s finances during the pandemic and will continue to help provide a cushion in the short term against the large price increases that are in the pipeline. It is worth pointing out that the running costs for Adastra last year were £4.081. One of the main concerns now is increasing energy bills and we are looking at energy saving measures for the coming year. ## **Adastra House** The routine safety servicing has been carried out on schedule (fire extinguishers, heater service and gas safety check). There will be some major costs in the next year as the exterior paintwork needs attention. Smoke and CO alarms have been fitted and we now have an official Risk Assessment for use of the building. ## **Junior Theatre Workshop** JTW returned in September 2021 and membership is now returning to pre-pandemic levels. We have concentrated on building up the confidence and self-esteem of the children by playing drama games, working in groups to encourage cooperation and collaboration and many improvisation drama activities to develop creativity. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find appropriately qualified volunteers to sustain a weekly schedule. ## **Little Voices Choir** Little Voices returned to rehearsals on July 1st 2021 with about 10 members in attendance. Since then, numbers have gradually increased and we are now almost back to pre-pandemic levels. It has been a positive year for Little Voices. Returning to rehearsals has been a welcome relief and being able to perform again to the public has been most enjoyable.
