We are run by a board of trustees that meet every 2 months. Trustees are appointed by resolution passed at a meeting of the charity trustees. In October 2022, 3 trustees visited Nigeria to assess the work of the charity in Nigeria. This trip was self funded by the trustees. ## **Aims and Objectives:** The Back Home Project provides free IT training to young adults in Nigeria, enabling the next generation to drive their own future. We do this by running free, in person, IT courses. We teach a programming language and the skills necessary to get a job in the IT industry. To add some context, unemployment for young adults is around 42% in Nigeria. ## **Our impact in 2023** 2023 was a challenging year to operate in Nigeria due to rising inflation, unemployment and power supply issues in Nigeria. Despite that we **ran 2 coding bootcamps** (16 Weeks): We trained a total of **22 students** across the bootcamps. The 4 month intensive boot camps equipped students with essential web development skills. Each course had 30 hours a week of guided teaching from a trained instructor. This comprehensive training program focused on practical, hands-on learning and culminated in significant accomplishments by the graduates in their final project. The graduates demonstrated proficiency in various web development technologies and are wellprepared to enter the tech industry. We were also pleased to have two ex-students from prior bootcamps join the teaching team. All our courses are completely free and held in person at a venue donated by a local businessman in Nigeria. We also resolved issues we faced with intermittent power supply in Nigeria, one of our key objectives for this year due to the disruption it posed to the teaching. One of the stories we received was from a brother of a student: “I was sceptical. I told her she was wasting her time. A program like that in _this_ Otukpo? I know the challenges, I’ve seen courses that don’t have computers. etc. But I’m glad she preserved and did this. I’m Impressed with the school and what she’s done.” We’ve also had 10 volunteers that have volunteered their time to do everything from project managing students through their final project to judging students' work and providing feedback using their technical expertise. ## **Our goals for 2024:** - Deliver 2 bootcamps - Transition to a new delivery partner (Alvahtek) which will take over delivering the courses in Nigeria.
