Presented to the members at the AGM CUDDINGTON WI ANNUAL REPORT 2023-24 My favourite job as Secretary is writing our Annual Report for the AGM. What always amazes me when I look back over the year is how much as a WI we have managed to do. This last year has been yet another busy one. Our year always starts with the AGM in November. Nicola Davies stepped down from the committee and Denise Gould joined it. Jenny Sadler was re-elected as President for her third and final year. We also held a light-hearted quiz and confirmed that the principal charity we would fundraise for this year would be the Princess Alice Hospice. November also included a trip for some members to see Pride and Prejudice at the local Adrian Mann theatre. In December we were entertained by Fiona Jane Weston with her History of Christmas show and we all voted on our preferred resolutions for 2024. In December we also swapped our regular coffee morning for a well-attended and enjoyable afternoon tea with homemade cakes at Nicola Davies’ house. In January we chose to hold another lively Beetle Drive at our monthly meeting. Other activities that month included a trip to hear the Band of the Coldstream Guards play at the Epsom Playhouse and a wellattended roast meal at the Hogsmill Carvery for our New Year Lunch. In February Margaret Watson entertained us on her harp and in March David Allen spoke to us about the life of Agatha Christie. Trips out in March were a visit to the Law Courts and Horizon 22, plus the Annual Council meeting at Dorking Halls. In April our own member Maureen Jones talked to us about her life as an Athletics Coach and we had 2 further theatre trips out to see Sister Act and The Girl on the Train. May saw Mark Barber teaching us some Self Hypnosis techniques to help us to make changes in our lives. Margaret Wales, President of Maple Village WI and our delegate to the National Meeting, came to brief us on the proposed resolution on Dental Health Matters. May also saw members off on a sunny day for a coach trip to Canterbury. In June we partied with an Afternoon Cream Tea of delicious sandwiches, scones and cakes to celebrate our 8th anniversary and Jenny Sadler and Stephanie Garrett attended the WI National Meeting at the Albert Hall. In July David Brickerton told us the story of his parents during WWII and we continued to meet in our summer break with an informal picnic in Auriol Park in August. In September, Ian Pullen talked to us about working for the RNLI on the River Thames and we rounded off the year in October with an entertaining talk from Lindsey Barrell on Burlesque and the WI, plus a trip to the Hampton Court Royal School of Needlework. We have also been busy supporting the community, both local and international this year. Members helped out at the Epsom and Ewell Silver Band Christmas Concert. The Knit and Natter Group made trauma teddies for the local Fire and Police services. We litter picked around Wandgas in support of the Great British Spring Clean and collected a range of recycling products through Terracycle. We raised money for charity through our regular raffles and the sale of plants; we bought shopping bags; and ran our bottle tombola at the Big Day Out. We held 2 collections for the Epsom and Ewell Foodbank and we also sent our spare bras and towels to Africa. On top of all of this we have had our monthly coffee mornings with book swap included; the Book Club met monthly to discuss what they’d read; the walking groups walked weekly; the Knit and Natter group knitted together and the new Lunch Club enjoyed some lovely meals out. Looking back on the year, we have had an incredibly busy and active time, thanks to the enthusiasm of our members, the efforts of the committee and the superb leadership of our President Jenny Sadler. **TAR** March **2012** 4 Section D Achievements and erformance p Jenny is resigning from the committee along with Jackie Bruce and Sheenagh Davies. I’m sure you will all join me in thanking them, especially Jenny, plus the remaining committee members for all they have done.
