Mary Ward Loreto UK Trustees Report 1[st] January 2022 – 31[st] December 2023 ## Objects The Objects for which the charity is established for the benefit of the public are to promote the eradication of human trafficking throughout the world, by tackling its causes and effects in such ways as are exclusively charitable in England and Wales. It is set up to develop a specific British presence. To establish on-the-ground services in the UK combatting human trafficking, consequent on cross border work between Britain and Albania already being undertaken by the Mary Ward Loreto Foundation NGO registered in Albania. ## Benefits To reduce the number of victims being trafficked into the UK from Albania. To increase awareness within the UK of the comprehensive prevention, protection, counselling and recovery work being done by the Mary Ward Loreto Foundation in Albania. Highlighting its positive and contributory function, significantly shifting UK perceptions of Albania solely as a major source of international trafficking crime. To support research into relevant aspects of human trafficking and modern slavery in Albania. ## Activities in 2023 Payment of grants to Mary Ward Loreto Foundation in Albania for support for salaries and rents for work in support of victims of trafficking and in preventive work. Payment of grants to support poor families to reduce risk of their becoming victims of trafficking. Fund-raising for anti-trafficking work by the Mary Ward Loreto Foundation in Albania. Development of Fund-raising strategy with outside fund-raising advisory company Development of a network of friends and supporters. Establishment of Communications subcommittee and progress on development of new website Visits to Albania by member of communications team to work with MWL Albania on website. Visit to Albania by fund-raiser to assess training needs of staff there. This led to a successful application for grant for training of staff in Albania on fund-raising. Successful research bid to University of St Mary’s Twickenham or research to be carried out in Albania by staff of MW Albania. Recruitment of new trustees.
