Description of the charity’s trusts

There is no formal induction for trustees but all are invited to meetings of trustees and are provided with monthly accounts and copies of policy documents. The charity has a Chair of the Board of Trustees and a Treasurer. Other tasks are led by the remaining Trustees. The charity works within a wider network: Birmingham Open Spaces Forum, which has linked us to professional fundraisers such as GetGrants. One trustee is a Governor of the adjacent Bournville Village Primary School. Detached youth work has been delivered by Youth Work Europe. Tennis coaching is provided by Tennis for Free and is led by one of our trustees. Appropriate policies concerning major risks such as Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Finance are in place. These are reviewed annually by the trustees. |

| Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year |
1. Support for leisure activities In December 2022 and from March to November 2023 we ran Sunday morning sessions under the Tennis for Free Programme, supported by coaches from Weoley Hill Tennis Club and our volunteers. Over the whole period, we had approximately 600 people attend these sessions. Weekly Tai Chi sessions take place in the Park, with a total of 840 attendees over the year. 2. Education Using existing funding, Forest School sessions continue. There were 3 community sessions funded by the charity. These complement the sessions organised and paid for by Bournville Village Primary School. A grant from Awards for All and another from Heart of England have been used for detached youth work. 3. Park improvement Trustees and volunteers planned to remove Himalayan Balsam from the stream in the Park but were thwarted by adverse weather. Overflow of sewage from a sewer passing through the Park has been, and is, a continuing problem. Local residents and trustees are active in demanding improvements from Severn Trent. Two kind donations mean that a ‘memory’ tree will soon be placed in the Park. 4. Promotion Social media presence has been maintained and is heavily used. A newsletter is issued to members of the charity after each Trustees’ meeting. It describes recent actions and decisions, and provides insights into the thinking of the trustees, These activities meet the objectives of the charity. |

| Friends of Bournville Park funds will be held in its bank account until needed. Funds awarded through grants and awards for designated purposes (“restricted funds”) will be held to be used for those purposes only. General funds will be held in the bank account until the Trustees or designated CIO officer(s) agree on any expenditure. The Treasurer will provide detailed monthly accounts showing which funds are available to spend under each heading, with one heading for each grant or award and one for general funds. Other than ring-fenced restricted funds, the charity does not decide on an appropriate level of reserves, as activities are undertaken only as can be afforded within remaining unrestricted funds. |

The charity’s principal sources of funds are grants and awards. Regular financial support is provided by Birmingham Open Spaces Forum. Expenditure on each grant is always in support of the objects of the charity. Payments are not made to trustees or volunteers.
In this financial year, a major grant was awarded by the Heart of England charity for detached youth work. Funds provided by Birmingham City Council continue to support Tai Chi in the Park and Tennis for Free is paid for by the Lawn Tennis Association.

The charity has a small amount of non-financial assets such as gazebos for events, lighting for the hut, litter pickers, and gardening equipment. Also, Bournville Commonwealth Games Festival funding of last year left a legacy of sporting equipment for the charity. This has been used for detached youth work.
