Objectives and Activities

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	United in Design Charitable Trust exists to promote equality and diversity to the public benefit by creating an equal opportunity pathway for entry into the Interior Design industry for people from black, Asian, ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. To achieve this aim United in Design initiates a range of programmes, and training opportunities. Subscription fees, grants and donations fund the work of United in Design. When signing up to United in Design, we ask that our partners unlock doors and encourage others within the industry to share their wealth of expertise, time, advice and guidance with those who need it most. United in Design is a small charity founded in July 2020, in our third year we progressed and expanded our framework for the future, focussing on a range of initiatives including our flagship Apprenticeship Scheme, our mentoring programme, work experience, careers guidance, School Outreach, education and training partnerships, delivering talks and panel discussions, and a Jobs Board Apprenticeship Programme 2023 We facilitated six apprenticeship placements with respected industry professionals. The scheme secured year long employment placement opportunities for six graduates. Round -table events offer the apprentices additional industry support and training. Overview: The scheme gives a United in Design applicant a full year of broad work experience, employment and training. The apprentices were paid a realistic annual living wage of £22000.00 pa. Mentoring Programme Many of our professional supporters and partners have been allocated a mentee from our pool of applicants. The mentoring programme continued to run through 2023

offering an opportunity for in depth relationships between mentor and mentee to grow and flourish over time. Education Partnership We have continued to build on our relationship with KLC School of Design as our School Outreach partners. 2023 saw the launch of the The School Outreach pilot programme. The aim is to inspire and inform, showcasing the accessibility of Interior Design as a career path. The School Outreach encourages interest from a wide range of pupils to help them understand the courses to study at university and the next steps to get a job in Interior Design. Two Outreach days were run in 2023. Developing Apprenticeship Scheme training and structured support for business In our third year we have continued build on the good work and foundations that are already in place, continuing to spread the word about the charity and its aims. Promoting equality and diversity via press and PR platforms has been key and encouraging and guiding our professional partners to follow suit. The Apprenticeship Scheme provides a great opportunity to visit businesses and supporting partners to monitor the progress of their apprentice and offer ways to increase inclusion and equality in the workplace. By offering solutions and methods for troubleshooting while at the same time encouraging the work involved in addressing a lack of diversity and inclusion we’ve been able to build a strong network of professional support for the charity. Business strategy and planning for the future Education and increased awareness of issues around diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the aims and objectives of the charity and also key to fundraising which remains a priority. There is a continued need to go into studios and businesses to advise participating supporters and members about ED&I we continue to develop strategies for the future to help support businesses to reach their pledges. Our plans for the next 12-18months would include the appointment of a new Charity Director United in Design Trustees have spoken at many industry events, and panel discussions to continue to get the message about the charity out into the wider community. The team at United in Design maintained a presence for the charity at events such as Design Focus, Decorex. In collaboration with United in Design, the Woolwich Contemporary Art Fair

offered 1 of 3 spaces to one of one of our apprentices. Giving an opportunity for an emerging diverse talent to showcase her work. Curating a beautiful space to showcase art in a more familiar and inspiring setting. Recruitment and Career Development Resources and Advice United in Design provide a resource as a Jobs Board to promote vacant roles of our professional partners amongst our network of applicants and on social media channels. The Resource Hub offers applicants guidance, support, information and advice on how to enter the industry and Simon Hamilton who sits on our Steering Committee has offered CV clinics, advice on interview technique to all candidates and ongoing career advice. Awards I n July 2023 United in Design was announced as a winner of a prestigious DBACE Award

Independent examiners report to the Trustees of United in Design Charitable Trust

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts for United in Design Charitable Trust (“the charity”) for the period ended 31 December 2023.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or 2. the accounts do not comply with these records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
