Woolwell in Bloom Annual Report
November 2022
Since our last AGM November 2021 we held our Christmas fundraising and raised £322.
In January 2022 we held our post Christmas and planning meeting for projects in 2022. The decision was made to create a platinum Jubilee Garden. Nicky said the land belonged to SHDC and after waiting 9 weeks she told us it was PCC. We contacted PCC and within a week everything was in place and permission granted under licence. The plans had already been given out to various contractors and quotes were coming in. We asked john Hart, Chair of DCC, and he donated £1000. BPC donated the jubilee bench and Nicky gave £500 plus various donations from the community.
We continued with the existing gardens, re-entered Britain in Bloom and our judging day was 20 July. No results would be known until mid October.
Late summer we did 2 fund raising events, a succulent plant sale which all plants and pots had been donated, raising £230.60 with the only cost to us of £24.60. A few weeks later we had a pot sale which raised another £170.
Soraya has done 3 talks to local groups bringing in another £80.
As autumn planting kicked in we were able to replace with donated large blue ceramic pots filled with beautiful coloured chrysanthemums.
Our results arrived on 13 October with a very impressive Silver Guilt which is remarkable for our first year entry into village pennant when you think we are only an estate with no through road.
We will be holding our annual Christmas raffle and fun raiser in December at the Woolwell centre where we will again display our RHS award certificate.
