Charities Commission Trustees report November 2021
In November 2020, we became a charity with the help of our local CVS. We were in lockdown at that time. The only duties that the group were carrying out was light tidying to the gardens on an individual basis. We were waiting to hear if a 2021 Britain in Bloom competition would happen as the 2020 competition was cancelled. In early spring, the group were able to start meeting again and decided to enter Britain in Bloom 2021 in the category of ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’. No real fundraising took place during lockdown but we did receive a few donations from our residents in the form of money, plants and pots etc.
At the end of April 2021, the group returned to gardening within Covid guidelines and our own risk assessment. Two collecting tins were placed in our local shop and hairdressers. Our entry for Britain in Bloom was assessed on 14[th] July which was followed by a cream tea at the Woolwell Centre. We continued gardening throughout the summer and as autumn arrived, we started our autumn/winter planting. On 7[th] October, we received our results of the assessment. It was Level 5 Outstanding which then meant we were entered into the Gordon Ford trophy which is the South West regional completion. It is very rare for a first time entry to gain a Level 5 result. Our group and the community were thrilled with the result. We plan to enter the Pennant Group in 2022.
At the time of writing, we are planning a fundraising Christmas raffle at the Woolwell Centre where we will be able to display our award certificate.
