It will take over the assets, activities and daily running of the work of Jacob’s Well Appeal charity (reg no. 515235) on the 1[st] April 2022. We are aware that it will take several months to be fully functioning and we realise that we will still have direct debit payments etc into Jacob’s Well Appeal Charity (reg.no. 515235) for some time. We have been advised by our solicitors that we should in any case keep Jacob’s Well Appeal Charity (reg no. 515235) open to receive any legacies which identify the charity by its charity number. Other than receiving payments to pass on to Jacobs’ Well Appeal CIO, all activities will be carried over to the CIO. The delay in establishing Jacobs’ Well Appeal CIO as a working entity was due to the difficulty in getting a bank account during the Covid period. We were unable to establish any bank account until September 2021, and decided after advice from our accountants to transfer the assets etc at the beginning of the next financial year. 8 ## **Jacob's Well Appeal** ## **Report of the Trustees For the year ended 31[st] March 2022** ## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE** ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVIES** ## **Public benefit** Jacob’s Well Appeal CIO plans to continue the work of Jacob’s Well Appeal (515235) to change the lives of many of the poorest and neediest people in the world through the following means: - **a) Sending aid – medical, educational, agricultural -aboard (worldwide)** - **b) To make grants to partner organisations to run charitable projects and complete charitable infra-structures projects overseas.** - **c) To sponsor children and support education overseas** - **d) To strengthen churches and spread the Christian faith local in the East Riding, UK, and overseas.** - **e) To alleviate poverty in our local area** - **f) To help vulnerable people in our local area find purpose in life, receive support, mentoring and integrate into society** - **g) To safeguard the environment through promoting the re-use of items that would otherwise be discarded locally and overseas.** ## **Reserves** The Trustees’ policy is to hold sufficient funds (£30,000) to enable the charity to run efficiently for a period of approximately 3 months. At the same time, it ensures that it has sufficient in reserve to be able to meet any Future Developments and Going Concern. ## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** ## Governing document The Trustees manage the affairs of the CIO and meet not less than 5 times in each Charity year to review progress and policy. In general, when vacancies arise, potential Trustees are invited to stand for election from the many people in contact with the Charity. They are usually people who have a particular skill or experience which will benefit the Trustee body, such as legal knowledge, accountancy, management, medical, caring or practical ability or a proven ability as a volunteer in the charity field. They are given a copy of the constitution and the latest Charity Trustees’ Annual Report and statement of accounts as well as documentation to help them understand their role, responsibilities involved and an explanation of the activities of the charity, information about its history, governance and financial functioning. Each year one third (or the number nearest to this) must retire by rotation and then be re-elected if appropriate. There is no limit on the number of trustees and all the members of the CIO are its Charity Trustees. Subcommittees are appointed to make recommendations to the Trustees where an issue needs investigation. A committee may consist of two or more persons but at least one member must be a Charity Trustee. Supporters are kept in touch with the charity by a regularly updated web-site, our Facebook page, twitter account and a newsletter which is posted or emailed twice each year to keep them in touch with current events. ## **Risk management** The CIO will take over the day to day running of the Jacobs’ Well Appeal Charity 515235 at the beginning of the next financial year and will review the Risk Assessments in relation to the shop, warehouse practice, transport and office. ## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT (continued)** Different aspects of the activities of the Charity are subject to control in conformity with legislation by the Home Office, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, the Environment Agency, the Health and Safety Executive and the VAT Inspector, as well as the Local Authority: Trading Standards Officer re: Charity Shop, Food Safety Officer re: Food, Storage and Export, and other guidance such as Internal Transport Safety. ## **We would also like to thank our many supporters and donors without whom nothing would be possible.** REFERENCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS The Charity benefits from professional advice as follows: Solicitor: Messrs Cooper, Wilkin & Chapman. Bankers: HSBC, Barclays, TSB, Insurers: 1 Stop Insurance and Aviva Independent Financial Advisor: Andrew Piper from Stephenson Johnson ## **STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES –** The trustees are responsible for preparing the Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice) The law applicable to charities in England & Wales, the Charities Act 2011, Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to: - select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP; - make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; - prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, The Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the trust deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
