2024- Churth •¢tlvl
2024 was a year of transltlon forThe Ught Church as we welcomed Dave McKeown as the new Lead Pastor of
the church in May. Dave's appointment brought to an end a 6-month period without a deslgnated senior
leader, during which a team of laithful volunieew5 stepped up to provide the stability and leadership
needed to navigate this challenging season. This ensured th* whi15t the church was not in a position to explore
any new ministries, we were able to maintsin and sustsin the key ministr*s o* the church throughout the year.
A5 a chuich we have continued worshipping God together regularly, runnlng children's ministry on a Sunday
momln& putting on youth Broups through the week. and practi5ing hospitalty through home rhurches and
various social events. Throughout the year we have also continued to serve those in our local community
thrO￿h the Foodbank and advice centre and our Renew Wellbein8 space, ensurin8 that the church is a
welcoming and safe space for all. regardle55 of whether they would consider themselves to be part of ihe
church community or noL

The church famliy ha5 contlnued to demonstrate its generosity through its ongoing financlal support despile
the fact that the financial climate ￿MaInS very challen8in8 for many. Moreover. Foodbank has continued to be
self-sustaining ministry, benefrttin8 Irom the generosity of a number of donors enabling it to raise sufficSent
funds acfOSS the year to 5UPPOrt [15 on8olng growth. Tech Styles. a community breakdancin8 company* have
become a pemianent tenant rentlng a sectlon of the upper floor on a long-term bas15 provldlng 5ub5tantial
income, and we have contlnued to reni out various spaces wrthin the church on an ad hoc basls to supplemenl
thls through the year.
Foodbank & Advlce Centre
The Cost of Livin8 Crisis contlnued ihls year wlth si8nifkant nurnbers of people needlng emergency food
parcels, wltnessin8 to more desperation in the cornmunty. However. $0 many people from all sectors of
society have been remar￿bty generous in giving their time and donations, that we have still been able
to meet the need. Our gratitude goes out to all those who have supported us th15 year.
Durin8 2024 we fed 16.367 people- a sli8ht increase on 2023 - and gave 147.303 meals to help families
put food on the lable for them and their children. Many of these familles have nowhere else to tum and
face Impossible cholces every meal time.
Ourgenerous supporters, Includin8 schoots. churches and the local c*)uncil. donated 118,691KG of food-
equlvalent to £320,465 or 23,738 shoppin8 bags of food that we've type and date sorted, stored and
packed Into parcelsl Thls ts so Insplrln8 and encoura8lni at a time when everyone 15 feelift8 the plnch.
AIon8side our emergency 3-day parcels we 8i¥e away fresh ve8etables. bread and other produce. Our
volunteer drrvers pick this food up from supermarkets helpin8 to reduce food waste. We also served 7740
hot meals across the year durlng our session5 to clients ¥i5iiing the FI￿dbank As well as being an expression
of hospltaléty. thls Is a real practical blesslng to many as our clients sometimes haven't eaten for days.
As well as servln8 th05e who come to the Foodbank to collect food parcels, we a150 delNered 1920 paicels to
people who were too ill to leave their houses. Our volunteer drivers stopped them 80ing hungry and cold
in their hour of need. We are eXt￿melY grateful to C(pop cornmunity grants for fundin8 these delivery costs.
As well as addressln8 our clients. immediate need by provldlng emergency food parcels, we also seek to help
people deal wlth the root cause of their food criss. We have è wonderful team of slgn-posters who chat to every
cllent to help identify the root cause of their food uisis and see rf there is any addltlonal help we Can provlde.
We have partnered with Equality Togetherlo provKle cllents wlth expert benef￿ advice at all our 5e55ions.
This is a key area of need a5 benefrts advice and assistance in apptyin8 for the beneffts to which they are
entitled is cruclil to putting rnore money in people's pockets and helplng to prevent them needing to access
a Foodbank. We are extrernety grateful to The Trussell Trust for providing funding for thls partnership.
We also have a Job Coaching service that runs durin8 our sessions. Thi5 year we've coached 294 people.
helped write 53 CVS, and helped clients appfy for 155 jobs. As a ￿$Utt 21 people have secured employment
with a further 29 securrn8 training opportunities and 13 starting a volunteer role. Our gratitude goes to the
Yorkshire Building Society fortheir8enerosity in fundin8 this initiative.

Wlth a recognition that fuel poverty is al￿ a very real Issue for our cllents. we were able to acce55 Councll
fundin8 to provide emergency fuel 8rants to 1548 households. amountin8 to £151.704.
During 2024 we started an asylum seeker support proje¢ which was again fvnded generously by the YorkshSre
Bulklln8 Society. This proleci supports peopk on thelr asylum Journey wlth houslng advlce and putting them
In contact with lawyer5 where necessary as well as givlng them vrtal food and the means of 8ettin8 connected
through a 51M card. Since its inception In Aprll we have supported 564 people through ihis projett.
As a result of The Trussell Trust's partnership with Vodafone and Tesco. we were able to give out 1715 free
V¢)dafone and Tesco SIM cards to help people overcome digital exclu510n.
We provkled a Welcomelwarm space on Mondays. Wednesdays and ￿ndaYs. For those a￿eSSIng thls S￿¢È
on Wednesdays, we also provkled a I￿e hot meal.
As a result of the enormous generoslty of many Indlvkluals and a sl8nlfkant donatlon of toys from Yorkshlre
Water, at Christma5 we were able to 8ive out 600 Christmas hampers. Parents were also able to choose a toy
for thelr chiklren fmm our grotto to give to them at Christmas ensuring thai children had a present to open
at Chrlstmas. Our slncere thanks 80 to everyone who donated to thls appeal and parttulath to
Yorkshire Water who donated hundreds of toys.
As well as dealing w￿h the reality of people's needs. we have also been able to use ouf plath>rm to speak up
for the vokeless and powerless. We appeared on BBC News24 In the lead up to the general electbon
campai8nlng for the government to'Guarantee our Essentials. by addressin8 the flaws bn the Universal CredFt
system to ensure that It Is sufficlent for people to Ilve on. We have also appeared on BBC Look North,
Heart Radlo, Capltal Radlo and regularty on k)cal 8C8C radio.
Our wonderful team of 80 volunteers have helped to make all of thts posslble, always beln8 willin8 to do
what15 needed to help our clients and ensure that 2024 has been a remarkable year for our Foodbank.
Isaiah 58 says 'if you spend yourselves on behaw of ihe hungry and satisfy the need5 of the oppressed, then
vour li8ht will rise in the darkness. and your night will becorne like the noonday., We have continued to see this
reallty reflected as our Foodbank ministry has shone the light and love of Jesus into the Ir¥e5 of so many
across the year.
