To advance the education of the public in the history and heritage of Pocklington and its hinterland; in particular, but not exclusively, by establishing and operating a permanent museum Summary of the objects and collections for public presentation, protection and of the charity set out in conservation of heritage assets, and the promotion of research, its governing document the useful results of such will be published for the public benefit. Section D Achievements and performance
The trust was unable to progress matters relating to premises Summary of the main for a museum during the year because of East Riding of achievements of the Yorkshire Council pausing all property discussions due to charity during the year lockdown. Therefore our energies were directed into establishing our new charity and engaging with the public via events and social media.
Establishing the trust has included:
Submitting policies regarding child protection & safeguarding, equality, complaints and health & safety; which enabled the trust to gain East Riding Minimum Organisation Standards accreditation from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
We became a member of the Association of Independent Museums and British Association of Local History and arranged public liability insurance through them.
We attended regular quarterly forum meetings with Museum Development Yorkshire to work towards applying for Arts Council Museum Accreditation.
We have developed clear trust branding and logos for publications and correspondence, and established a trust website – pocklingtondistrictheritage.org (Aug 2021) – and a Facebook Page (Jan 2021) which has both distributed and received information and answered questions and requests.
Opportunities for engaging and informing the public face to face were limited by lockdown, but we put on pop-up museum displays in July and August 2021 at which we gave explanations, answered public questions and distributed leaflets about the area’s prehistoric history and landscape.
We have continued to research the district’s history and publish articles and information. Individual trustees have given talks to local groups, both in person and online.

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
Details of any funds materially in deficit
The trust has to make a ‘nil return’ in regard to financial matters due to an exceedingly frustrating delay in being able to open a bank account.
We began efforts to open an account as soon as the trust was established in Oct 2020, and met an HSBC Bank representative in June 2021. They indicated that our account should be functioning in 2-3 weeks but despite numerous prompts and reminders this had not happened by the end of the reporting period.
The trust has no financial deficits.

Due to the delay in obtaining a bank account, all activities in the trust’s first year of operating have been achieved by volunteer input or the goodwill of local business. This has enabled us to carry out our objectives in the interim in educating and informing the public without income or expenditure.
