Trustees’ Annual Report 2024–2025 Objectives, Activities and Public Benefit
1. Charitable Objectives
Deaf Rainbow UK exists to advance equality, inclusion, and wellbeing for Deaf LGBTQIA+ people across the United Kingdom. The charity works to reduce isolation, increase visibility, and promote understanding of the intersecting experiences of Deafness and LGBTQIA+ identities.
Public Benefit Statement
The Trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. The charity’s activities during the year were undertaken to provide clear public benefit by increasing awareness, improving access to inclusive community spaces, and supporting the social wellbeing of Deaf LGBTQIA+ individuals.
2. Summary of Activities and Achievements
April 2024
William was appointed as Event Organiser, strengthening the charity’s operational capacity to plan and deliver accessible community engagement activities.
May 2024
In partnership with the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD), an LGBTQ+ awareness video was released. This activity was funded through a partnership established in 2021 and contributed to increased awareness of Deaf LGBTQIA+ experiences.
June 2024
Deaf Rainbow UK delivered an LGBTQ+ awareness presentation at the British Deaf Association (BDA) conference in Derby, supporting sector learning and inclusive practice. In the same month, Paulus was appointed as a Trustee, strengthening Board capacity and governance.
July 2024
A Pre-Pride community engagement event was delivered, providing a safe and inclusive space for Deaf LGBTQIA+ individuals to connect and build peer support networks.
August 2024
Trustees attended a performance of Antony and Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe through complimentary tickets, supporting cultural access and partnership development.
February 2025
A Valentine’s Night community event was delivered in London, promoting wellbeing and social connection. During the same period, planning commenced for Deafab, a future programme focused on expanding community engagement.
3. Risk Management
The Trustees regularly review the risks faced by Deaf Rainbow UK, including limited trustee capacity, reliance on volunteers, and financial sustainability. Mitigating actions include trustee recruitment, role clarification, and prudent financial oversight. Risk management is a standing agenda item at Trustee meetings. Additionally all policies are being reviewed for compliance.
4. Safeguarding
Deaf Rainbow UK is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals involved in its activities. Safeguarding considerations are integrated into event planning and delivery. No safeguarding incidents or concerns were reported during the 2024– 2025 reporting period.
