The Trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the Charity for the period ended 30 November 2022.

## **THE TRUSTEES**
The following trustees served the Charity during the period and until the date of this report :

During this period Noor Ahmed and Mbozi Haimbe resigned due to personal commitments and relocation from U.K
All major decisions are taken collectively by the Trustees.
Dr Hawa Yatera continues to manage the administration and day to day operations of the charity until the Charity is able to employ an administrator to manage its projects.
## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**
The charity started operations as a community group supported by Trustees from their own personal resources on 14 October 2019. It was later registered with the Charity Commission for England Wales on 12 November 2020. The Charity is governed by its Trust Deed adopted on 05 November 2019.
## **Recruitment and appointment of trustees**
Recruitment and appointment of new trustees is made in line with the Trust Deed and with the consent of the Trustees. The criteria set for the suitable candidate would be someone who is sensitive to the needs and demands of the organisation.
In order to bring a range of skills and cover the broad reach of the charity, the trustees are from backgrounds that reflect the diversity of the people that the charity works with.
## **Membership, Trustee’s induction, and training**
Membership of the charity is open to any individual interested in helping the charity achieve its objectives and abide by the constitution.
New trustees are briefed by the existing trustees on the objects and operations of the charity and are referred to the guidance for new trustees published by the Charity Commission.

In addition, all new trustees are encouraged to read the trust deed and discuss any queries arising from this with existing trustees.
All trustees are expected to be familiar with the work of the charity and get involved in events and services regularly. The charity places emphasis on staff and volunteer development and where financially possible, trustees are also sent on training courses seen as beneficial to the charity.
Trustees also discuss the future plans of the charity in relation to the objectives of the charity and ways to secure and strengthen the financial position of the charity. Plans for the charity are also put to the AGM at least once a year in which the ordinary members all have a chance to speak and vote.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**
## **Objects of the Charity, principal activities and organisation of our work**
The objects of the Charity are to preserve, protect and promote physical, social, and mental wellbeing of underprivileged women and girls of colour through increasing awareness, education, training, and social support. The Charity wants to empower, build resilience, improve confidence, and promote positive social and cultural togetherness while enhancing love and trust within the society. The Charity also advocates for quality education, social-economic support, and social entrepreneur skills for underprivileged women to fulfil their potential and achieve their dreams. The Charity currently covers communities in and around Sheffield.
## **Public benefit**
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers or duties.
The charity has outreach community services, which empowers families that are disabled and also works in partnership with other organisations with similar objectives .
The charity also works in collaboration with the local council and is a member of voluntary Agencies in Sheffield working with schools and social services to ensure collective actions for the improvement of health and social inequality within the city.
## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**
During the period, United Women Affiliation (UWA) continued to service the underprivileged population in Sheffield and surrounding areas. UWA provided support and empowered underprivileged women, single mothers, young people and single fathers through awareness educational training and meetings on preventable social determinants of health including financial management and parenting.
Despite the many challenges regarding resources and reaching, UWA was able to provide 91 educational awareness training group meetings for 1,084 women and young people. Also, we provided digital skills for 12 women of which 5 are now confident in using computers and are utilising the skills to do online virtual courses. The goal for the virtual learning is to gain confidence and ultimately earn a qualification that will give them opportunity for further education and employment and improve their English and life skills.
For the empowerment goal, which aims to support women to become self-reliant, a total of 18 women had entrepreneur business awareness information and basic training courses and 4 women showed interest in starting small business. These women were given support and are now self-employed. 4 volunteers were trained on parenting championship, 3 finished the course successfully and are supporting 5 families within the organisation.
The access to health and social services support continues to be a major factor that exacerbate long-term health and social inequality for the underprivileged people. UWA clients continue to experience inequality and social injustice that increase mental and social unwellness. Considering that many people we serve live with long term and complex health and social conditions and are limited in language and digital skills, UWA is working with local GPs for their medical reviews and prescriptions.
After covid restrictions ended and people were allowed to start their normal lives while observing their preventive and protective behaviours; anxiety, loneliness, isolation and fear were noted to have increased

within the people who serve. UWA continues to support its service users by ensuring they receive quality culturally tailored services with sustainable outcomes.
UWA mainly uses volunteers and sessional workers to deliver its services. The Charity is planning to hire a full-time administrator in the next period.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
## **Transactions and financial position**
The Statement of Financial Activity shows net expenditure for the period of £7,172 (2021: Income £9,492). The shortfall is met by brought forward reserves from the previous period. Net assets at 30 November 2022 stood at £5,884. The Charity continues to rely on donations and grants and is particularly grateful to the cooperating patterns above and those individuals and organisations who donate to it.
## **Reserve Policy**
The Charity carries reserves sufficient to meet its immediate needs. Its reserve policy is to minimise overheads and only commission projects once specific project funding is secured.
Without support from the following funders, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve our goals so we acknowledge and give thanks to all of them.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINERS REPORT**
I report to the charity trustees on the financial statements for the year ended 30 November 2022, which comprise the statement of financial activities and statement of financial position and the related notes.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year and that an independent examination is needed. The charity's gross income did not exceed £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a qualified member of The Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner's report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1. General information**
The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charities Commission and companies house in England and Wales. The address of the registered office and other administrative information is as given in the Trustees Report.
## **2. Statement of compliance**
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Charities Act 2011.
## **3. Accounting policies**
## **Basis of preparation**
These accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds held by the charity are funds that can be used in accordance with the charitable objects at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds held by the charity represent funds where there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent.
## **Incoming resources**
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when received or when the economic benefits associated with the transaction flows to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:
- income from donations ,gifts for grants is recognised when received and its amount can be measured reliably.
- legacy income is recognised on receipt and entitlement is established.
- income from donated goods is measured at the fair value of the goods unless this is impractical to measure reliably, in which case the value is derived from the cost to the donor or the estimated resale value. Donated facilities and services are recognised in the accounts when services are received and the value can be reliably measured. No amounts are included for the contribution of general volunteers.

- income from contracts for the supply of services or goods is recognised when received. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.
## **Resources expended**
Expenditure is recognised on a payment basis. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:
- expenditure on raising funds includes the costs of all fundraising activities, events, non-charitable trading activities, and the sale of donated goods.
- expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.
- other expenditure includes all expenditure that is neither related to raising funds for the charity nor part of its expenditure on charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.

## **10. Taxation**
The charity is a registered charity and therefore is not liable to income tax or corporation tax on income derived from its charitable activities, as it falls within the various exemptions available to registered charities.
## **11. Related party transactions**
Other than reimbursement of reasonable expenses of carrying out duties of a Trustee, no remuneration was paid to the Trustees or persons connected to them.
## **12. Going concern**
There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.
