Trustee Annual Report
Year end5ng 31 March 2024
The past year has been one of consolidation of the fvnding base forsunrise. We have obtsined
a further three-year funding allocation from the National Lottery. a substsntial grant aid from
Tudor Trust, a5 well as 8rdnts from Devon Community Foundation and a strntegic grant from
Bamstaple Town Council.
The last year has been noticeable in the dlversfficatlon of our frjnders and reduchon of rellan¢e
on one or two big funders. Based on thi5 more consolidated funding base we undertook a
major staff ￿vieW to brSn8 US UP to a full stsff complement of nine. Staff roles were reviewed
and all existing Staff pla￿d into new roles refiecting a more focused workload for each of
them.
An LGBTQ+ Activities and Groups coordinator was appointed in January to develop a project
withln the Torrldge area. In addttion. we have appolnted an Operational Manager to lead on
management of staff and operations. This was a much-needed post to free up time for our CEO
to focus on the strateglc developrnent of the orKan15ation.
Afull review of our strateglc directlon has been undertaken and a more concise plan is in
process of implementation. We are being asS￿ted In this by a consultant from the Cranfiekl
Trust. This support wlll help us to focus on regular review and update of our plan and challerhge
from an outside perspective. We see both these aspetts as an important shtft in making our
strategic plan and development a more dynamic process.
On the servlce front our work has con￿ntsed to grow, wtth a balance betsveen support to
indrviduals, wider awareness raising and training in the community. We have seen a noticeab
increase In domestic abuse and immrgration cases which are frequentty very complex in nature.
l-l casework support has benefrtted from introdudng a JiAG rating System to manage volumes
and need. ESOL (Engllsh for Speaker5 of Other Languages) demand has also continued to
ncrease to six classes per week WTth nine students per dass split be￿een beginners and
Intermediates.
At the wider Lwents and awarene55 level we have held group5 Including Meet and Eat,. an
LGBTQ+ Saturday Group- ¢elebratlon days forwortd food, Black History Month, LGBTQ+ month.
Intematlonal Women's Day.
A very successful PRIDE march and celebration was held in July with more than 500 attendees,
a major advznce in numbers from previous years. We have also provlded tralning sessionsfor
agencies to help them explore improving response5 to EDI wrthin their structures.
In all this work one of our major aims has been to In¢rea5e partnership working and encoLbrage
all agencies to develop their approaches to dlver51ty and support for minorty communitie5.
This ha5 encompassed working with.. Poll¢e. DCC, North Devon and Torrldge Dlstrict Councils,
Intercom Trust, Barnstaple Museum, Bamstaple LJbrary, PETROC. Ndada, AONB. Devon County
Countil OomesticAbuse Partnershtp and Resettlement Teams. NOVS, and Th.
