Trustees’ Annual Report
Introduction
The club has undergone many changes in the period, most notably at trustee level. Effectively a new board of trustees was established to oversee the running of the club in January 2023. I was delighted to accept nomination to act as the new Chair of the club, and subsequently other new trustees joined the board to progress and develop the club. Having overcome early challenges, the club continued to grow and develop with membership exceeding 120. This maintains Brandon as one of the largest table tennis clubs in the North East. Currently we have 12 teams competing in local leagues representing an increase from 9 teams in the previous season.
Trustees and Volunteers
The club’s continued development and ongoing operation owes a debt of thanks to many people. The new board of trustees are still assisted by many of the former outgoing trustees, who continue to give up their time to help in the running of the club. Additionally, our weekly diary of table tennis would not run without the valuable time and effort of both our session supervisors and our coaches. Our weekly sessions continue to be well attended and involve members of all ages and abilities playing either competitively or for recreational purposes. A newly formed ladies and girls group commenced on Thursday mornings and continues to grow.
Achievements
The 2022/23 season saw some notable successes for the club. In the Sunderland league Brandon Joules won the second division title. Joining them in promotion to the first division were runners up Brandon Outlaws. Additionally, both Brandon Devils and Brandon Energy secured promotion to division 2. In the Northumberland league Brandon Bravehearts won the handicap cup. Our younger players continued their development competing in the National Junior and Cadet leagues. Both our juniors and ladies group also entered a team in the Sunderland league providing competitive table tennis for each group. We also began a project to coach and develop table tennis in local primary schools. Our thanks go to Durham AAP for their grant assistance in delivering this ongoing program.
And Finally
My thanks go to all of our volunteers, coaches and trustees who continue to support our club. Our aim looking forward is to continue to provide table tennis activities and related benefits to our members. We have several member benefits shortly being rolled out as we look to maintain our position as one of the leading table tennis clubs in the area.
