To advance education in environm8ntal matters in relation lo the Radley Lakes Area. by supwrting. promoting and encouraging the provision of information and instruction about such matters. To advan￿ seience by supporting, profnoling and encouraging research into the environment of the Radley Lakes Area and its conservation, and the dissemination of the results of such research. To advan￿ human heamh by supporting. promoting and encouraging activities in the Radley Lakes a which contribute to the maintenan￿ and improvement of human physical and mental h8allh and well-being. The main activities undertaken in relation to those purposes for the public benefit are.. Planning and implementing projects for enhancing access to, and the ecology of, the Radley Lake5 aTea. These projects are guided by the Radley Lakes M2s1erplan, which was launched in May 2021. Dialogue with landowners, funders, and other stakeholders to enable the projects to be successfully pursued. Running a series of events lo increase awareness of the Lakes and the Trust and in some cases lo raise funds. Communication wlh the local community, by website, $o¢ial media. newsletter and meetings. Building a network of Friends and volunteers, both for fieldwork and administration. Maintaining sound governance a￿angeMentS for the Truslge Board and its relationship with the Trust's Advisory Panel and wider membership. The Trust pro-actively seeks volunteers and lists all those interested in helping, whether in the field or with other aclivilies. Volunteers are very important lo the functioning of the Trust. Annual Report {continuedl for the year ended 31st July 2025 Publlc benefit statement The trustees have complied with tl7eir duly to have due regard lo the guidan￿ on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties. Achlevements and perf0m￿ll¢e Of particular note this ye8r was the launch of the book'The Story of Radley Lakes, in Marth 2025. Over 250 copies have been 301d al events and through local shop$ with funds from the sale of the book supporting the work of the Trust. Our funds wore bolstered by generous personal donations and this year we also r￿1Ved £13,400 from the organisation Friends ofRadley Lake. After 20 years Sin￿ the start of the campaign to save Thrupp and Bullfield Lakes, Friends of Radley Lakes {FRLI has n¢)w begn fomially dissolved. The main proiect focus during th8 year related lo improvements lo 150 metres of the path on the northem edge of Thrupp Lake, immediately lo the east of the footbridge. In addition. ongoing Maintenan￿ woth was undertaken on other footpaths in the Radley Lakes area together with annual scything and clearance WOTks on Barton Fields and Thrupp Green to maintain biodiversity. The Trust is indebted to Radley Parish Council for funding the Thrupp Lake footpath improverrsenls. landowners John Curtis and H.Tuckwell for continuing support, and to a wide raroe of volunteers f￿ ensuring the effective delivery of all improvements. A full programme of events was also run during the year. The aim of these was lo raise awarenes5, account to Friends for adivities of the Trust, raise much needed fund5 for the work of the Trust, and m8inlain a sense of community with respect lo the work of the Trust. Our third Annual Forum was held in September 2024. and included a talk from trustee Sarah Leeming on the work of SUSTRANS. The Trust held their second Quiz Night in Febnjary 2025 and ils fourth Lakes and Cakes event in July 2025. Other activities included marshalling for the Abingdon Marathon in October 2024 to raise funds, and having 8 presence al the Radley Community Picnic in June 2025 and Radley Primary School end of term fete in July 2025. The Trust also offered a number of guided walks to Friends of the Trust and a surftmer guided walk for members of its Advisory Panel to view recent wor1£ of the Trust and advise on futur& proiecls. Health & Safely aspects of the Trust's work were assessed and a mor8 effective policy adopted. This is available on our website. The Trust contsnLted to widen ils on-l1￿ pres8nce through ils website as well as ils F8￿book. Inslagram and Bluesky sites, and has increased ils number of followers on each plarform. The website typically receives over 60 hits a day. In addition, newsletters were published during tho year and the number of Friends ol Radley Lakes Trust continues to grow and had exceeded 230 at the year end. The Trust continues to ensure ils voice is heard where relevant with respect lo planning applications and consultations. 11 has had specific interest in road safety and traffic movements along Thrupp Lane and continues lo monitor plans for mineral extraction undeme8lh Nyatt Field so that il can make appropriate represenlalions to protect biodiversity before, during and after any future works. In participation in planning matters and consullalions generally, the Trust has regard lo its charitable objects and seeks elso lo work constructively wilh18ndowners and other inler&sled parties, with whom it continues lo develop relations. Flnanclal review (Includlng reserves policy The Trust's focus in 2024125 continued lo be on broadening its message. developing ils programme of events and maintaining monsenlum in project delivery. Sales of the newly launched book'The Story of Radley Lakes, generated sales of £3,695. The Trust's expenditure on masterplan projects was £38,058. Grant5 from Radley Parish Council for £40.128 supported maslerplan project delivery. Friends of Radley Lakes made a ring-fQn￿d grant of £13,617. The Trust also received support in kind, notably from H Tuckwell and Sons Ltd and J Curtis and Sons Ltd. The conslilulion, which was updated in September 2024, provides for not lfjss than three, nor more than ￿e1ve appointed Iruslees, and no more than two nominated Iruslees, with Radley Parish Council and Abingdon-on- Thames Town Council each having a right to nominate one Iruslee. At the year end there were twelve trustees as listed on page 1. The Trust also has an Advisory Panel of people with special gxpertise, for InSta￿e in land management and wildlife monitoring, whose advi￿ is drawn on as needed. The Trust employs no staff and its functioning relies greatly on volunteer effort. In 202415 there were two lead volunteers with particular responsibility for web51te, social media and data management. This is in addition lo the large number of volunteers engaged in field activities. Relationships with Radley Parish Counol are governed by a Memorandum of Understanding. This ensures appropriate liaison on matters of common interest bul safeguards the independence of both bodies.
