Riding Mill Village Hall Chair’s report June 2022
The last few months have seen major changes in the charity in its transition to a CIO. This new status has enabled the trust to draw its membership from a wider group beyond the hall user groups who used to provide the committee membership. This has allowed the new board to look for new trustees who have skills which will strengthen the functioning of the board as it faces up to a range of challenges. At the same time we have maintained a link with the affiliated user groups with the establishment of a Users’ Advisory Group who give regular feedback.
Having responsibility for the running and upkeep of two halls in the village, the older parish Hall and the Millennium Hall, we are grateful for the support of the Parish Council in transferring the full ownership of the Millennium Hall to the Trust and the Church for the opportunity to extend the lease on the Parish Hall.
The cost of maintaining the two halls, especially the increase in the price of energy, is pushing the trust to reviewing all aspects of heating the two buildings and how we adapt our charging policy.
The trust is delighted to report the continuing essential support from a small army of volunteers who play a vital but unsung role in the success of our community buildings in providing a place for people to meet and enjoy the company of friends and neighbours. One illustration of this is the work undertaken in the transformation of the grounds of the Parish Hall with its Peace Garden, the work of the ‘Garden Invaders’ past and present.
