## Annual Report 

## Submited to the Annual General Meetng of the Trustees of the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe (ROCOR) 

This report is presented to the Trustees by the Chancellor of the Diocese at its meetng on the 14[th] October 2023 held virtually. This meetng also received the fnancial statement with the Financial Report to be submited to the Charity Commissioners of England and Wales by 31[st] October 2023 at the latest. 

## Introducton 

The Diocese was granted Charitable Status on November 9[th] 2020. The Diocesan Chancellor sought specialist advice from the Charity Commissioners and was advised of a suitable tmetable by Mr Mukhtar Abdi, an advisor assigned to the new charity last April. As the Diocese progresses, we will move more closely to this structure in the fnancial year that concludes on 31[st] December 2023. 


## Fulflment of the Aims of the Diocese. 

- Establishing places of worship and devoton of the Russian Orthodox Faith. 

The Diocese maintains almost 40 places of worship across Great Britain, Ireland and Western Europe. In recent tmes the Diocese has developed new places of worship

and in partcular has established much more regular worship in the Netherlands and in Pau, both areas have been very difcult to provide services in during the past years. into its care a parish in the Netherlands in Arnhem and is expanding opportunites for worship throughout its many natonal territories. A new mission in Ireland has been well received and will quickly atract the Faithful and older, established Cathedrals and Parishes seem to have benefted from an infux of the Faithful and an increased fervour. There have been a number of receptons of Ukrainian Clergy as a result of the confict in their country. This too has had a marked infuence upon the capacity of the Diocese to meet the needs of an ever-growing number of worshippers. The Diocese has also seen the ordinaton of a number of new priests and deacons, subdeacons and readers which has greatly contributed to the strengthening of Diocesan life right across its many countries. Clearly, there is much to be thankful for. Stll, there are unmet needs across the territories of the Diocese and much work to do. The pressing need is the establishment of both male and female monasteries remains though developments have taken place in France which may facilitate this in the near future and it is hoped that 2024 will see some progress in this area. The Diocesan Bishop has visited many of our parishes this year which contnues to strengthen their resolve and fervour of faith. 

- Raising awareness of the Russian Orthodox Faith and encouraging missionary and outreach actvites to enlighten others about the Russian Orthodox Faith. 

The Diocesan website and the websites of the Diocesan parishes and missions are very well visited and used. These are means of reaching out to a wider group of people. New missions in new areas bring great blessings and soon atract new worshipers. There is outreach through a wide variety of means including youth camps, refugee camps, food banks and collectons for good causes. The Diocese it has sent considerable funds to our Synod in New York to be distributed for charitable purposes. The Diocese antcipates with joy the visit of the wonderworking Hawaian Icon which will be both spiritually benefcial for the parishes but will also draw many new people to come to venerate the icon. All these actvites greatly enhance diocesan life and more such visits are planned for 2024. 

- Carrying out Russian Orthodox religious practces, devotonal acts and pilgrimages. 

The Diocese sponsored a European Music conference which was a great success in London (shortly to be repeated as an annual event). This drew singers from Orthodox parishes from Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Great Britain and the United States of America. It is hoped that this actvity will greatly enhance the traditonal worship for which Russian Orthodoxy is known. There have been many pilgrimages. A Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the Summer and many other pilgrimages throughout the territories blessed by the Diocesan Bishop have taken place this year. All these actvites strengthen and enhance the spiritual lives of the Faithful and lead to more and more devoton not least to the Saints of the God-preserved lands of

Western Europe and the Britsh Isles. In recent months, the Diocesan Bishop was able to invite together all his clergy to Florence for a Clergy Convocaton in late November 2023. This will bring together more than 40 clerics from right across the Diocese, clerics from diferent natonal backgrounds and with diferent linguistc and cultural needs yet all united in their one faith in Christ. 

- Providing religious educaton, training and resources to the Russian Orthodox Faith community. 

Many of our parishes have Sunday Schools and youth actvites. There have been youth camps held for example in Switzerland and young peoples work camps organised to support parishes. Readers are regularly trained within the parishes and the Diocesan Cathedrals and larger parishes act as a resource for the training of new clergy. The Diocesan website and other websites blessed by the Diocesan Bishop contnue to make available the many riches of the Orthodox devotonal and liturgical traditon for a wider audience. 

Conclusion 

The Diocese contnues to strengthen both spiritually and materially. Our fnancial positon is greatly improved as Trustees can see in the enclosed Accounts and Financial Statement. We need to aim over the coming years to consolidate the achievements of the past year and move towards the establishment of a permanent residence for the Bishop and the establishment of monastc life in the Diocese as spiritual resources and places of devoton and training. It is with deep grattude to God that all these positve developments are reported to this meetng and a real sense of hope enables us to embrace our future.
