Little Fishes Pre-School (Brackley) was registered with the Charity Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Institution in November 2020. The CIO was formed to take over management responsibility for a preschool in Brackley that was a sub-organisation of Brackley Baptist Church. The trustees of the new CIO had all been members of the Church Management Committee which had previously overseen the work of the pre-school, and this was intended to give continuity through the change into a new legal entity.
At the first meeting of the Trustees in November 2020 the following were appointed as the officers of the CIO: Denise Smith as Chair; Peter Kidger as Secretary; Ian Timmis as Treasurer. Confirmed as additional trustees were Patricia Cory, Yasmeen Epps and Marion Uttley. It was agreed that the financial year for the CIO would be the academic year, namely 01 September to 31 August. The draft Constitution which had been submitted to the Charity Commission was confirmed as the governing document of the CIO.
The trustees then entered into discussion with the Executive of the Church over the transfer of the pre-school assets and staff to the new CIO. It was agreed that the CIO would take over responsibility for the pre-school from 01 September 2021, the start of the next academic year. The pre-school operated in part of the Church premises, and the CIO was given Security of Tenure by the church to guarantee it could continue to use the premises and apply for grants towards the work. It was agreed that all the equipment and supplies being used by the pre-school would be transferred to the new organisation at no cost to the CIO, and this was done. All staff retained their existing terms and conditions of service and their continuity of employment. Throughout this period staff were kept informed of what was happening and how it would affect them. The local authority was also informed of the change, and in the summer the parents of children attending the pre-school were informed of the change and why it was happening and given the opportunity to speak to the trustees if they had any questions or concerns.
On the 01 September the CIO Little Fishes Pre-School (Brackley) assumed responsibility for Little Fishes Pre-School as planned. Since then the PreSchool has continued to flourish despite sometimes operating with the effects of Covid restrictions and infections, and it looks as if the academic year 2022-22 will be successful educationally and financially.

Although the CIO started its operations in November 2020, it did not take over management responsibility for Little Fishes until 01 September 2021. During the financial year 2021-22 the CIO incurred no income or expenditure. However it appointed a treasurer, set up the necessary financial processes and requirements, including liaison with HMRC.
