## **Cynghrair Seiriol Alliance** ## **Chair’s Report for AGM 19th March 2025** ## **Introduction** The organisation was formally set up as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and registered with the Charity Commission on 2nd November 2020. This is our third AGM. Our Charitable Object as agreed with the Charity Commission is: **To develop the capacity and skills of socially, economically or otherwise disadvantaged members of the community of Seiriol and the surrounding area, in such a way that their needs can be more effectively identified and met and that they are empowered to participate more fully in society.** Since our formation in 2020 as a CIO we have tried to build on the good work of the Pobl Seiriol / Seiriol Alliance structure previously in place. We are indebted to the support of Medrwn Môn, Menter Môn, the IOACC and all the members of the Alliance including Town and Community Councils, local organisations, community groups and numerous individuals including many volunteers. I am personally particularly grateful for the support of our trustees: Alwyn Rowlands (Vice Chair), Janet Owens (Treasurer), Di Bell, Lesley Rendle, Barbara Williams, Gethin Rowlands, Rob Macaulay and Steve Jones. Dr Ifan Morgan resigned as a trustee in April 2024 for very understandable reasons, not least workload, and I am grateful for his support as a trustee in the past and his continued support of the Alliance in his role as one of our local GPs. The Alliance’s priorities are: 1. Transport 2. Health and Wellbeing 3. Communication and Information sharing 4. Community Activities 5. Housing and Employment 6. Environment 7. Young People 8. Welsh Language The Alliance welcomes the amazing work done by all the organisations and community groups who support community wellbeing in the Seiriol area. The activities facilitated by these organisations/groups are wide ranging. They are very often dependent on the tireless work of enthusiastic volunteers. The Alliance also values the contributions made by employed staff in their various roles within our Seiriol community. The Alliance is proud to have supported some activities, groups and individuals over the past year in a small way though it recognises that its contribution is only a very minor part of all the community work that is going on in the Seiriol Ward. ## **Activity in the last year:** ## (1) **Grants awarded** - Seiriol Men’s Shed £350 - Llangoed and District Flower Show £100 - Ysgol Gynradd Beaumaris £100 - Owain Glyndwr Llanddona Defibrillator Appeal £300 - Beaumaris Allotments £200 SPF Grant from Medrwn Môn: - Llangoed Village Hall £1,460.56 - - Grwp Natur Seiriol £1,000 - Green Prescribing activities £2,500 - David Hughes Centre £500 - Canolfan Iorwerth Rowlands £1,734.60 - Menai Straits Heritage Sailing £750 - Plas Bodfa Projects Aberlleiniog Sculpture Trail £500 - Llanfaes Play Area £600 ## Despite her reduced hours (12 hours/week) , Rhian has facilitated a number of activities including the following: - Memory tiles project - Monthly Repair Cafes - Defibrillator Training in various venues across Seiriol: 102 attendees in total. - Running Green Prescribing sessions every fortnight since the end of the Cwlwm Seiriol Project. ## ## **(4) Seiriol Good Turn Scheme (SGTS) and Community Transport** The SGTS was established in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic and continues to undertake “Good Turns” on behalf of disadvantaged people in our communities. The majority of the “Good Turns” involve supporting older people who are often socially isolated or struggling with physical and/or mental conditions such as dementia by - providing community transport - supporting community group sessions - organising and supporting outings I am grateful to the work of the SGTS Steering committee, all the call handlers and the contributions of over 60 volunteers in the past year to support this work. The SGTS continues to get busier year on year. |**YEAR**|**Number of Journeys**| |---|---| |2022|742| |2023|1115| |2024|1431| ## New(er) Minibus Thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses we raised over £40,000 and were able to replace our ageing minibus with a newer vehicle. We took ownership of a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter 17 seater minibus which is wheelchair accessible on 1st July 2024. It has undertaken over 150 journeys since then including taking up to 3 wheelchair users at a time from Haulfre and Plas Penmon Care Homes. ## Scheduled Bus Service The bus service serving the Seiriol area has been reduced over the years and there are a number of villages, notably Penmon, Glanrafon and Llanddona, which have seen their service deteriorate or stop altogether. IOACC approached the Alliance at the end of 2024 asking us if we would consider using our community minibus to fill in some of the gaps in the current scheduled bus service provision. We are in the process of consulting with the affected communities and are hoping to start a pilot community bus service in May. We have received £5,384 from IOACC SPF monies to support this pilot which will include paid drivers for the first time. The pilot will run for 2 - 3 months and feedback from our expereinces will inform future community bus service developments. ## **(5) Welsh Language** The Alliance is sponsoring a prize (£200) in the forthcoming Eisteddfod Môn 2025. We are also pleased to see that there are weekly “Panad a Sgwrs” sessions for Welsh Learners now in at least three venues in the Seiriol Ward. The sessions are supported by local fluent Welsh speakers who volunteer their time to help people learn Welsh. ## **(6) Volunteers** A big thank you to all the volunteers who have helped out in so many ways across the Seiriol area in the past 12 months. ## **(7) Communication** We are indebted to the hard work of the Puffin team as the quarterly publication plays a vital role in disseminating information to the Seiriol area communities. ## **(8) Life after Cwlwm Seiriol** Thanks to the efforts of a small band of volunteers, Grwp Natur Seiriol has been set up and has obtained significant grant funding to support its great work looking after our environment. The Green Prescribing sessions in Aberlleiniog every fortnight have been able to continue thanks to SPF monies but we need to look for more grant funding in the near future for them to carry on. ## There have been a number of aspirations that we have not fulfilled in the past 12 months or so. Thomas Close Play Area in Beaumaris: The Alliance agreed to go into partnership with Beaumaris Town Council in order to secure the future of the Play Area but, unfortunately, months have passed without any progress being made. Beaumaris Food Festival: The Alliance and Canolfan Beaumaris went into partnership with Anglesey Events Ltd in order to facilitate the holding of the Beaumaris Food Festival in 2024 but we were unable to go ahead with the event in the end. Improved website/digital communication: A lack of time and resources has resulted in little progress being made with this priority. Thankfully individual organisations/groups are forging ahead themselves! Cysylltu Seiriol Connect: A lack of time and resources has meant that there has been no progress with this and no grant applications including to the National Lottery have been made. ## **Future Development** There continue to be challenges ahead, particularly with regard to funding and the long term sustainability of Cynghrair Seiriol Alliance. A lack of time and resources has impacted our ability to fulfil our ambitious priorities. However, we do continue to make progress with many and, I believe that, by working together we can meet the challenges ahead and continue to thrive.
