The Association has concentrated on its objects of encouraging interest in woodturning and the training of interested members of the public in the skills of the craft. To that end the number of training days throughout the year have been increased from four to five. This has enabled a maximum of eight people per day to enjoy a half-day session with one of our trainers. We have increased the cost to cover ever rising costs but at forty pounds for three hours it still represents excellent value for money.
The meeting at the Village Hall has remained popular with prospective members who have enjoyed the opportunity to “try their hand on a lathe” before committing themselves. The recruitment of experienced members to take on the task of instructing at training session remains a difficulty. With our dedicated band of instructors it is age and infirmity is limiting the ability to offer more events.
In March the Association again attended the Midlands Woodworking Show at Newark where it had a stand on which work was exhibited, and several members were able to show their turning and associated skills to the public. The exhibits generated a lot of interest from visitors and the members staffing the stand were kept busy for the two days of the show.
There have been no major purchases of equipment during the year but each of the four lathes has been equipped with a new chuck ensuring that the same is now fitted to each machine. Regular maintenance by competent members of the Association has ensure all equipment is kept in good and safe working order. The lighting at the Village Hall has been improved with the Association contributing to the costs.
The cash free environment introduced last year has continued to operate without problem. It has resulted in more efficient accounting procedures. All transactions are recorded immediately with no need to visit a bank! The accounts remain in good health and the subscription levels have been maintained without the need for an increase.
