At the start of the year some “Covid” restrictions were still in place but as they were removed the Association settled into a regular pattern of three meetings a month. There continues to be one “face to face” hands on session in the Village Hall, an online “workshop night” where members present their work and video recordings online and at the end of the month an online demonstrator who can be any where in the world!
Membership has continued to grow and we now have a member in the US as well as some from the far corners of the UK. Once restrictions were removed training sessions were arranged for Club members, as well as members of the public. These 1:1 sessions, with experienced turners from the Association acting as tutors, proved very popular and will be repeated in the future. The Association has continued to invest in equipment to enable more people to take part in training activities and to that end a fourth lathe with ancillary tools and chuck was purchased. Dust extraction equipment has been acquired to improve the health & safety at turning tutorials and additional sharpening machines are available for both students and turners at these sessions.
Improvements continue to be made to the container/shop with the canopy erected last year being enclosed to make an weatherproof outdoor display area. Redundant equipment has been disposed of and it is now possible for all remaining equipment to be securely stored without inconveniencing other users of the Hall.
The Association has enjoyed a healthy financial position throughout the year and was able to promote a wide ranging and innovative programme of activities and events. Despite spending more than our income we had brought forward an adequate balance form the previous year to cover the shortfall.
The year ended with what is now becoming a regular feature, the online Christmas party. Although restrictions are no longer in place it allowed all our members, where ever they are, to participate from the comfort of their own homes.
