Incorporation and Objectives
BSBKA was incorporated as a charitable incorporated organisation and registered with the Charity Commission on 4[th] November 2020. It superseded an unincorporated charity with the same name and took over the assets of that previous body.
The objectives of BSBKA, as set out in its constitution are to promote and further the craft of beekeeping within the area defined broadly as the town of Bishop’s Stortford and its surrounding villages and countryside (“area”) and to advance the education of the public within the area in the importance of bees in the environment.
Affiliations
BSBKA is affiliated to the Hertfordshire Beekeeping Association (“HBKA”), which in turn is an Area Association of the British Beekeepers Association (“BBKA”).
Activities
Despite the constraints imposed by the UK government in response to Covid 19, 2021 was a busy year for BSBKA.

During the first half of the year while there were various restrictions on meeting in groups we ran a series of monthly meetings and training seminars online that were well attended.

When the meeting restrictions were lifted we ran two beginners training courses over a period of 5 weeks with a total of 40 attendees. We also restarted regular monthly evening meetings for all members.

Throughout the summer we held practical training sessions for new and developing beekeepers at our Association Apiary.

We had a busy swarm season with over 100 call outs received from members of the public.

We attended the “Manuden Open Gardens” event and displayed live bees in an observation hive, which, as ever, provided a great tool to educate the public on the importance of bees and how they live.
At the beginning of the year we applied for and received a grant totalling £25,000 for the development of the Jenkins Lane Apiary, specifically to install an outdoor classroom, additional storage space, composting toilet and solar power. During the year members of the Association gave their time and energy to help implement this project and we are currently about half way through the development, with the remainder planned for completion in 2022.
Annual General Meeting
The first AGM of BSBKA will take place on 4[th] April 2022.

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of BSBKA
I report on the accounts of BSBKA for the period from incorporation to 31st December 2021 ("Accounts").
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
As trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the Accounts. It is my responsibility to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by BSBKA and a comparison of the Accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the Accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not expressed an audit opinion on the view given by the Accounts.
Independent Examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements to (a) keep accounting records and (b) prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records have not been met; or
-
to which in my opinion attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the Accounts to be reached.
