## Overview 

ArroweSound  Hospital  Radio  Trustees  are  pleased  to  submit  their  annual  report  and  accounts  for  the year  2022. ArroweSound  Hospital  Radio  is  a  registered  charity,  governed  by  a  constitution. 

## Charitable  Objectives 

- (1)  The  relief  of  sickness,  poor  health  and  old  age  amongst  people  living  in  Wirral  by  providing  a local  broadcasting  service  for  hospitals,  residential  homes  and  similar  institutions,  and  for patients  receiving  community  care;  and 

- (2)  (2)  the  advancement  of  health  and  prevention  or  relief  of  sickness  for  the  public  benefit through  the  promotion  of  the  benefits  of  living  a  healthy  lifestyle,  and  the  importance  of maintaining  good  personal  mental  and  physical  health  by  (mainly,  but  not  exclusively)  the means  of  broadcasting  health  education  messages  to  people  living  in  Wirral.

## Organisation 


ArroweSound  Hospital  Radio  is  run  entirely  by  volunteers,  who  pay  an  annual  membership subscription  and  is  governed  by  a  constitution  and  managed  by  an  executive  committee. 

## Related  Organisation 

ArroweSound  Hospital  Radio  is  a  member  of  the  Hospital  Broadcasting  Association,  a  national  charity that  supports  and  promotes  hospital  broadcasting  in  the  UK. 

## Dave  Holt  -  Chairman 

2024  on  the  whole  has  been  an  excellent  year  for  ArroweSound.  New  members  have  bedded  in  well and  are  a  great  addition  to  our  team.  We  have  moved  our  playout  system  to  the  latest  version  of Myriad  6  and  one  or  two  members  have  been  making  use  of  the  access  to  Myriad  Anywhere  and  have broadcast  programmes  away  from  the  studio  in  2024. 

The  latest  copy  of  our  station  magazine  has  also  been  produced  and  have  been  placed  in  locations throughout  Arrowe  Park  and  Clatterbridge  hospitals  as  well  as  being  available  externally  in  other  key locations  and  they're  always  available  when  we  are  out  promoting  the  station  at  events. 

This  year  we  have  continued  our  fundraising  partnership  at  Tesco  Bidston  and  have  started  raising funds  at  a  monthly  car  boot  sale  thanks  to  Steve  Fitch. 

As  always  I  wish  to  thank  all  our  volunteers  and  supporters  for  their  continued  support,  without  them or  their  generous  donations,  ArroweSound  would  not  be  able  to  keep  patients  and  staff  entertained 24hrs  a  day.

2024  has  been  a  good  year  for  training  and  welcoming  new  presenters.  I  have  managed  to  get  to  see all  presenters  on  an  individual  basis  and  see  what  areas  of  training  where  required  and  now  everyone has  the  ability  to  voice  track  programmes 

I  think  we  have  a  great  blend  at  this  moment  in  time  with  the programmes  we  have,  and  I’ve  been impressed  with  the  newcomers  over  the  last  12  months  so  thank  you  to  Glynn,  Steve  F  and  Dan  who  have  had

newbies  join  them  for  a  training  period  -  it  makes  a  real  difference  when you  have  knowledge  of experienced  presenters  on  hand. 


Unfortunately,  we  lost  Shay  at  the  end  of  2024  to  InDemand  Decades  -  but  it  shows  that  if  you  want to  get  into  a  media  environment  full  time,  then  ArroweSound  can  be  a  great  starting  place.  I’d  like  to take  the  opportunity  to  put  on  record  that  we  wish  Shay  all  the  best  as  he’s  done  a  fair  bit  of  stuff off-air  which  has  really  made  a  difference  to  the  station  this  year,  and  he  will  always  be  welcome  back in  the  future. 

Back  to  the  good  news,  and  I’m  delighted  as  always  when  the  shortlist  for  HBA  awards  are  announced and  ArroweSound  make  any  categories  -  and  this  year  I'm  absolutely  thrilled  for  Mike  McDonnell  and Dave  Holt  to  be 

shortlisted  in  the  best  newcomer  and  male  presenter  of  the  year  respectively.  Let’s  keep  our  fingers crossed  that  either  or  both  get  a  Gold,  Silver  or  Bronze  award  this  year  to  add  to  the  current  collection and  already. 

I've  added  a  couple  more  syndicated  programmes  to  the  schedule  in  the  last  12  months  as  well, Airplay  40  and  Greasepaint  &  Stage  Lights  -  a  chart  show  and  musicals  show  which  are  completely different  to  what  we've  had  in  the  past. 

## Treasurer/Fundraising  -  Glynn  Thomas 

Our  Income  and  Expenditure  Accounts  for  2023  were  presented  last  year  without  an  audit.  After investigation  and  looking  at  information  on  the  Charities  Commission  website,  I  discovered  that because  our  annual  turnover  is  less  than  £25,000  our  accounts  do  not  require  an  audit.  That  really  is  a money-saver  –  professional  auditors  don’t  come  cheap!  The  funding  situation  is  considerably  better than  it  was  at  the  end  of  last  year. 

Many  thanks  to  Steve  and  Debbie  Fitch  for  organising  monthly  car  boot  sales  at  the  Byrne  Avenue community  centre  which  brought  in  £281.80.  We  also  received  two  substantial  donations  –  Tesco Bidston  books  sale  of  £200  and  Neighbourly  Foundation  of  £250.  Other  major  income  came  from  the three  bucket  collections  which  brought  in  a  total  of  £864.58  and  “Easy  Fundraising”  continues  to  tick along,  this  year  hitting  £88.55  which  is  the  biggest  donation  we  have  had  from  that  source.

In  August  Dave  Holt  purchased  a  contactless  card  reader  from  a  company  called“Square”  which enables  people  to  make  donations  directly  to  our  bank  account  when  they  don’t  have  ready  cash. 


The  facility  deducts  2p  in  the  pound  from  donations  but there  is  no  subscription  charge  to  pay  and  the  device only  cost  £22.80  so  could  provide  a  useful  tool  in  addition  to  rattling  the  buckets.  We  had  a  few  items of  “one-off”  expenditure  such  as  going  shares  with  Radio  Clatterbridge  for  repainting  the  corridor  and doors,  purchasing  pens,  car  stickers  and  a  new  studio  chair  –  these  were  all  covered  by  generous donations  from  our  volunteers  and  committee.  In  total,  our  members  chipped  in  a  total  of  £344.16 over  and  above  their  subscriptions  towards  our  funds  –  many  thanks  to  everyone. 

So,  how  is  the  funding  situation?  Discounting  the  “one-off”  expenditure  and  calculating  the  running costs  to  stay on-air,  we  are  looking  at  roughly  £1650  per  year,  with  £1858.34  in  the  bank  at  31/12/24.  So  it’s essential  that  we  maintain  our  fundraising  efforts.  Unless  we  encounter  a  major  expense  next  year,  I’m  pleased  to  say that  we  should  have  sufficient  funds  to  take  us  through  to  end-of-year  2025.
