Para 1.20 Staffordshire Area Meeting comprises
of 7 local meetings (LMs) across the
county; with one meeting in the county
town and another in the counties’
cathedral city with its historical
connections with George Fox (founder
of Quakerism). There are 5 Quaker
Meeting Houses, with two meetings
meeting in rented accommodation.
All Meetings continued to meet for
Sunday Worship and provide pastoral
care for their congregations.
Lichfield, Stafford, Stone, Uttoxeter and
Burton Meetings have signed up to the
Welcome Directory, an initiative to
welcome ex-offenders on release from
prison.
The five Meeting Houses continued to
experience
increasing
use
as
community centres providing facilities
for a wide variety of charities, including
supporting refugees, mental health
support, educational organisations,
addiction services, musical activities
e.g. choir sessions, and a venue for
other faith groups. This list is not
exhaustive.
Uttoxeter Meeting have hosted three
school faith walks.
A Meeting for Worship was held on 15th
May at the National Arboretum for
World Peace and Conscious Objectors
Day.
An open day on the 13thSeptember was
held at the Meeting Houses of Stafford,
Leek and Uttoxeter as part of National
Heritage Open days.
Many Quakers throughout Staffordshire
are engaged in a wide variety of
charitable and community works, some
of which listed below;
Working with Asylum support groups
Participating in Peace Marches and
events with local churches.
Prison Chaplaincy
Volunteering with Douglas Macmillan
Hospice
Supporting environmental groups (local
and national).
Joining with Churches linked across
Staffordshire and the Potteries (CLASP)
Area Meeting (the governing body) met
7 times in 2025. Work included:

Receiving and approving the
accounts for 2024, reports from local
meeting and Area Trustees.

Reviewed
the
future
of
Stoke/Newcastle Meeting House
and reluctantly decided that the
Meeting House should be put out to
commercial let.

A Working Party set up in 2023 has
continued considering the long-term
future of Staffordshire Area Quaker
Meeting in the face of declining
membership and difficulties in
finding volunteers to apply for posts
involved in running the charity and
its activities.

Para 1.41 In 2019 £160,000 was invested, managed
by Rathbone Green Bank on behalf of the
Area Meeting to provide regular dividends
in the medium term through Ethical
investments. As of 31stDecember 2025, a
fund value of £171,724 representing an
increase of £4,055 gain on the year. The
risk level was set to level 3 to cover
inflation.

Para 1.21 The Charity is solvent, with £119,187 in
liquid funds and £242,583 in restricted
funds and investments as of the
31stDecember 2025 and as detailed in the
accounts. Staffordshire Area Meeting
Houses are insured for £4,970,282.
Overall, there was a increase in assets of
£12,176 from 31st December 2024.

reserves are held involves the upkeep and
maintenance of Meeting Houses, especially
as 3 of them are listed buildings.
This has been covered through the review
and simplification of funds held in the

funds for property maintenance and Relief
in Need have been set up.
