whole.|Para 1.20|Staffordshire Area Meeting comprises of 7
local meetings (LMs) across the county;
with one meeting in the county town and
another in the counties’ cathedral city with
its historical connections with George Fox
(founder of Quakerism). There are 5
Quaker Meeting Houses, with two meetings
meeting in rented accommodation.
All Meetings continued to meet for
Sunday Worship and provide pastoral
care for their congregations.
Leek and Stone Meetings has signed
up to the _Welcome Directory_, an
initiative to welcome ex-offenders on
release from prison.
The five Meeting Houses experienced
increasing use as community centres
providing facilities for a wide variety of
charities, including supporting refugees,
mental health support, educational
organisations, addiction services,
musical activities e.g. choir sessions,
and a venue for other faith groups.
This list is not exhaustive.
In addition to Meeting discussion|
groups exploring spiritual development, e.g. at Stone Meeting, Open days and public meetings were held to introduce Quakerism and the work of the Religious Society of Friends. Many Quakers throughout Staffordshire are engaged in a wide variety of charitable and community works. Currently there is no formal list of these activities, which is to be taken forward. Area Meeting (the governing body) met 7 times in 2023. Work included receiving and approving the accounts for 2022, reports from local meeting and Area Trustees. A working party has been set up to consider the long-term future of Staffordshire Area Quaker Meeting in the face of declining membership and difficulties in finding volunteers to apply for posts involved in running the charity and its activities.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ('the Trust') for the year ended 31 December .
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe th any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

**Notes to the accounts**
## **1 - Accounting policies**
**Basis of accounting -** The accounts have been prepared on a Receipts and Payments basis as perm 133 of the Charities Act 2011.
**Income and expenditure -** Contributions, grants, legacies, interest, dividends, and rents are all treate year in which they are received.
**Acting as Agent -** Further sums are collected specifically for passing on to other bodies, and so they income for the Area Meeting. These are not included in the SOFA or balance sheet, but they are summ
**Land and buildings -** The properties owned by the Area Meeting comprise Meeting Houses and ward accommodation which are held for the furtherance of the Area Meeting's charitable objects.
The contents of the Meeting Houses are written off at purchase and therefore only the current insured in these accounts.
**Reserves -** The Trustees have agreed a policy on reserves.
**Investments -** There are investments managed by Rathbone Greenbank with dividends paid into the

**Unrestricted funds** are freely available for any purpose of the Area Meeting. **Designated funds** are u which are set aside for specific purposes, but remain at the discretion of the Area Meeting. **Restricted funds** have been earmarked by the donor or testator for certain specific purposes. **Endowment funds** must have their capital preserved, but the income can be used for the purposes sp donor or testator.
**AM Designated funds** - The funds managed by the Local Meetings are primarily for the expenses of e may also be used for the centrally-managed work of the Society of Friends, or other purposes of the A In addition, AM has the following three designated funds: Reserves Fund to maintain the running of the Area Meeting for approximately 9 months, in the absenc Quaker Prison Chaplains Fund primarily to support the training of Prison Chaplains, and their attendan conferences. An Education Fund to finance course attendance at Woodbrooke Quaker Centre and elsewhere.
## **AM Restricted funds -**
Stone and Wolverhampton Local Meetings, as constituent Meetings within the AM, have restricted fun to contribute to non-Quaker causes. Leek Local Meeting has a restricted fund for the maintenance of House grounds.
**AM Endowment funds** - Neither the Staffordshire Area Quaker Meeting nor any of its constituent Loc endowment funds.
**Transfers** - An annual transfer takes place from each Local Meeting to the Area Meeting in order to fin expenditure.

**11 - Legal and administrative information**
## **Constitution and purpose**
The Area Meeting is a charity established for the advancement of religion and other charitable purpose bear witness to, the principles and practices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). The principa public meetings for worship in the constituent Local Meetings of Leek, Lichfield, Stafford, Stoke, Stone, Wolverhampton.
The affairs of the Area Meeting are governed by "Quaker Faith and Practice", the Book of Discipline of The Area Meeting has a Governing Document dated 18-10-2020. It is registered with the Charity Com 1192134. The Members of the Area Meeting are all those persons whose names are, for the time being register. The Managing Trustees are those appointed as such by the Area Meeting in session. The AM also appoints two members to serve on Meeting for Sufferings, which is a representative confe Trustee body for the centrally managed work of Britain Yearly Meeting.
