**period of challenge, determination, and**
**achievement, which culminated in a**
**solid foundation being set for our**
**drilling operations in The Gambia to**
**begin in earnest in 2023.**
**In May 2022, as Covid 19 restrictions**
**began to ease, the Trustees were able to**
**complete the purchase of the drilling rig**
**and its auxiliary equipment and arrange**
**for shipment from the United States.**
**Transit of the equipment started in June**
**2022 and was expected to take 3**
**months. To coincide with this, our**
**founding Trustee, Howard Measham,**
**travelled to The Gambia in August 2022**
**on a fact-finding exercise. This visit was**
**very fruitful, with a number of local**
**contacts made, potential sites identified**
**for equipment storage and a greater**
**understanding ascertained of the legal**
**requirements needed to operate in The**
**Gambia.**
**To build on the August visit and**
**progress the development of HM**
**Forage, Howard Measham revisited The**
**Gambia in October 2022. Again, it was a**| **successful and informative trip. A meeting held with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources identified HM Forage’s need to register as a constituted charity in The Gambia before operations can begin. Visits were subsequently made to the appropriate Government offices to start the process of creating a constitution and registering the charity. Constructive discussions were also held with a water engineer with vast experience of drilling about them potentially leading the charity’s operations. It was also recognised during the trip that the previous locations identified to store the drilling equipment were not really feasible, but delays in the shipment’s arrival gave the Trustees more time to seek new premises. In November 2022 we were informed that the shipment had been in the port of Banjul since early October 2022. This coincided with a new contact being made who agreed to collect the drilling equipment from the port and temporarily store it until a permanent office could be found. This turned out to be a challenging period, but the drilling equipment was finally found at the port and safely stored in its temporary home in January 2023. During the final months of the year the constitution for HM Forage Gambia was written and finalised for registration. Advanced discussions were held with a landlord for premises to be modified for use by HM Forage Gambia and negotiation entered into for a lease. Further discussions were also held with Gambian nationals as we looked to identify staff to manage and administer the drilling operations in The Gambia. This solid groundwork culminated in a positive end to the year, with three of our Trustees preparing to visit The Gambia in April 2023. A visit which will look to finalise the registration of HM Forage Gambia, set-up our base for operations in The Gambia and interview potential staff.
