Charlty Objects
The charlty's objects q'the obJ•cts') are:
1. The promotion of social inclusion for the public benefit among people who are
refugees and asylum seekers, socially excluded on the grounds of their social and
economic position, by promoting andlor co-ordinating, in partnership with volunlary,
community and faith organisations, services and facilities to assist them to adapt to
ife in the UK and within a community.
2. The promotion of equality and dNersity for the public benefit by promots'ng activities
to foster understanding and good relatsons between the general public, refugees and
asylum seekers as people seeking sanctuary.
Responslbllltles
The Con8tltutlon of Northampton Town of Sanctuary (NTOS) (agreod on 28
Octob•r 2020) 8ets out tho management of th• Charity through a Chair,

Meetings are held to conduct business other than that which is considered at the
Annual General Meeting. These meets'ngs are open to interested parts'es to join.
Reserves and Investment Pollcles.
Invesknent income- interest is brought into account on a receivable basis.
R&serve Policy The current policy is to maintain sufficient cash flow for known
commitrnents. Our aim to build a three to six months running costs.

Trustees Annual Report
NTOS Coordinator
This post was advertised. We had S applicants. 3 People were short listed and
interviewed. Zeke was appointed and started full-time work with us on January
16th
We knew from his volunteer work with L2L that he is a gifted youth worker.
As coordinator he has kept his role with L2L and proved to also be a gifted
project coordinator and administrator. Zeke brought in 16 new volunteers who
he supervised and managed inlo a variety of role8 Within NToS*vents, L2L,
ESOL, crafts.
Engaglng Rofugo•8
Zeke helped us engage the refugee groups in the Town-ukraine. Afghan.
Albanian. Iranian, Kurdish, Arabs. But there is more work to do in this respect
Our biggest venture of the year was opening our Refugee Centr￿The
Sanctuary -in the middle of lown. We signed the lease for the premises in
February and spent 6 months transforming a dilapidated office into a vlbrant
centre. We were supported in this by many volunteers who cleared the space,
and painted walls. Northampton College created a new office for us. Wickes
supplied the kitchen. A fitter gave his ts'me to install it. The charity Jam sourced
desks, tables and chairs for us. We were given a bookcase and books. We
bought the flooring, heating and the alterations to the kitchen. We officially
opened in September and welcomed friends and supporters. for a brief
ceremony and ribbon cutting. This also gave us the opportunity to thank our
sponsors, Wickes, Brackmills Bid, Northamplon College: and all our amaing
volunteers.
We now have a useable space that is welcoming and zoned lo meet different
needs. We prOV￿ed monthty free legal advice. weekly ESOL classes,
community kitchen, a weekty drop in, access to IT and WIFI, a food bank and
clothes bank.
Asylums seekers and refugees now know where to find us and it is working
well.

Three hotels in the county are being used by the Home offi￿ to house asylum
seekers. The overwhelming number of the asylum seekers are single men.
This is causing residents some anxiety.
Trustees were invited to one of the Parish councils to discuss their situation.
We talked about the need to offer ffiendship and get to know people and not
allow "othering." The police have been rigorous in responding to res￿entS and
allaying their fears. Nevertt)eless, the national media has picked up a story from
Deanshanger and the social media trolls and bots have had a field day.
Deanshangar people have engaged the resident asylum seekers offering
weekly drop in, football, work on Ihe allotrnents. day trips and a Xmas paty.
We are limited in what we can offer ourselves because of transport issues. We
visited one of the hotels and offered to help the under 21 s access the L2L youth
club.
We ran several events in the year. Refugee week was in June and we ran a
successful event in the Guildhall. We did our annual day trip to Hunstanton for
45 people and provided a Xmas party with games. presents and food.
Fundlng
We held a Barn Dance to raise funds on Feb 14th and raised just over £1000.
Zeke successfully appl￿ to Northamptonshire Sports for funding for L2L to
cover the cost of the youth workers and sporting activities.
We managed to gei funding for a bookkeeper. Vishal has helped with our
dOCu￿￿ntall0n, retums to the funders and with our next audit.
We were grateful to receive £1 OCKI from CommSep4e- a credit union, toward8
the provision of food for L2L.
Northampton Town Counc41 kindly granted us £90￿ to help with the
refurbishments and the lottery kindly allowed us to use our underspend on
refurbishments also.
We need to develop a longer-tenn sustainability plan and this will be a focus for
the year 2026.
