Litdrive Better balance Litdrive Impact Report 2022 www.litdrive.org.uk
Vision To provide ongoing subject-specific professional development to every English teacher and tutor to aid the quality of education and retain English teachers to the profession Mission To provide a community sharing platform for curriculum materials, subject specific mentoring and subject specific teacher development for all English teachers
The Problem Teacher recruitment and retention is at crisis point, with leaving teachers significantly outweighing teachers entering the profession to sustain educational standards. The Solution English teachers will be more effectively supported to deliver a high level of education to pupils if they have access to a professional community, high quality curriculum materials and subject specific teacher development.
Member Testimonials Helped build my confidence after returning from maternity leave as I didn't feel like I needed to spend time with planning. Providing high quality resources and cpd means that my teaching has been inspired and my own growth has been rapid. It's been such a huge boost to my own career development and sharpened my own subject knowledge. Litdrive has enabled me to stay in teaching - I don't think I would still be an English teacher had it not been for Litdrive. Thank you so much for everything you do!
Our member offer For a nominal membership fee, members have access to high-quality subject specific CPD, a shared resource bank of member-contributed classroom materials and the option to register for a subject-specific mentoring programme. Our offer aims to provide members with: Subject specific professional development delivered by subject teaching experts A subject communty to support and share effective practice A manageable workload, professional fulfilment, and increased likelihood to remain in the profession.
Our online CPD sessions were viewed 24177 times by teachers, totalling almost a MILLION hours spent engaging in subject specific PD. Whilst restrictions prevented several pLanned events running in 2020 and 2021, our online and in-person events have now reached over 3000 English teachers since their inception. 92% of members felt that Litdrive fulfilled its charitable objective and meets a need for subject specific professional development •a• Our Impact Members downloaded 229,965 resources from Litdrive in 2022, with several members sharing how these had developed their own approach to writing curriculum materials and helped to make teacher workLoad more manageabLe. 354 teachers took part in our mentoring programme, with one teacher sharing, Having a mentor made a huge impact to my practice and my school. She helped me to plan and implement change which heLped my colleagues and will improve student outcomes for years to come. 11:
Volunteer case study: Stuart Pryke As a volunteer. I have found Litdrive's regional CPD events and online PD offer invaluable. Firstly. through the planning and delivery of these events I have improved by own subject knowledge rapidly and it has been a joy to share this with fellow English teachers who attend. Secondly. it has allowed me to network with other teachers and volunteers across the country, sharing best practice, collaborating on the creation of resources and initiating debate around the teaching ot literature and language. In particular. the 'on demand. aspect of Litdrive's online PD has allowed me to flexibly share training with staff in my department and across my multi-academy trust to ensure we havc high tandardJ of teaching in our classrooms. Volunteer case study: Nikki Carlin I find it incredibly rewarding to lead the online CPD offer for Litdrive. Watching the recordings to prepare them for the website has given me a wealth of subject knowledge. new ideas. and practical resources. The submissions we receive to share with our members are always of such high quality, and show just how much passion and knowledge is out there. It makes me proud that Litdrive can offer that platform for teachers to not only leam from others. but share their expertise too. My role puts me in the unique position of seeking out excellent teachers who have something to share and may not have the belief to put themselves forw'ard. Being part of an organisation that values subject knowledge and teacher learning has made me a stronger teacher and leader. Ill
Plans for the future An improved in-person offer and online offer for schools to use as part of their subject specific PD provision, through the development of a more strategically effective voluntary PD planning team. Developing our communications to members, including guest blogs, case studies and other subject-specific support. Exploring other avenues for fundraising to ensure that the charity has a sustainability plan that enables long-term growth and stability.
Thank you from our Founder Looking back over the last year. I feel immensely proud of both the impart we have had in this time. and how well positioned we are to scale this impact in future years. Over the last five years. we have seen Litdrive's community and provision develop from the amazing #TeamEnglish bank of resources to dedicated website and established offer for over 27.000 new and experienced teachers alike. Following this. the development of our regional team enabled teachers to attend small-scale. COVID-19 attempted to challenge these plans. and our team provided live and pre-recorded professional development. opening up accessibility so that departments in school could utilise our sequence with their teams. and individual teachers could attend to specific subject knowledqe qaps. We know that all of the statistics listed in this report are underestimates of our true impact. We know that teachers have formed valuable connections through our mentoring programme. developed their own practice through the inspiration of others. or progressed professionally through the opportunities to contribute or volunteer with the organisation. One volunteer shared. '1 thoroughly enjoy volunteering. It has introduced me to so many other like minded professionals. It feels good to be giving back to the teaching community also through shared resources and mentoring programme, and Indeed, many collaborations have evolved as a result of these connections. We may never be able to fully capture the impact of Litdrive but all of this helps to contribute to our vision to provide ongoing subject-specific professional development to every English teacher and tutor to aid the qualty of education and retain English teachers to the profession. Our continued and evolving partnerships and collaborations will enable us to continue to evolve as a charity as we now look to be considered for subject association status. develop our member offer further and capture the lived experiences of English teachers so that pupils in every single English classroom can benefit. Many thanks to all of our supporters, funders and partners - we are excited to continue to scale our ifflpact wtth your support in the years aheadl

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of Preparation & Assessment of Going Concern
Basis of Preparation
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note(s) to these accounts. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities (SORP 2015) (Second Edition, effective 1st January 2019), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) and the Charities Act 2011.
The Charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.

▪ the charity becomes entitled to the resources;
▪ the trustees are virtually certain they will receive the resources; and
▪ the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability
Incoming Resources with Related Expenditure
Where incoming resources have related expenditure (as with fundraising or contract income) the incoming resource and related expenditure are reported gross in the SOFA.
Grants and Donations
Grants and Donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the resources.
Tax Reclaims on Donations and Gifts
Incoming resources from tax reclaims are included in the SOFA at the same time as the gift to which they relate.
Contractual Income and Performance Related Grants

Gifts in Kind
Gifts in kind are accounted for at a reasonable estimate of their value to the charity or the amount actually realised. Gifts in kind for sale or distribution are included in the accounts as gifts only when sold or distributed by the charity. Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SOFA as incoming resources when receivable.
Donated Services and Facilities
These are only included in incoming resources (with an equivalent amount in resources expended) where the benefit to the charity is reasonably quantifiable, measurable and material. The value placed on these resources is the estimated value to the charity of the service or facility received.
Volunteer Help
The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts.
Investment Income
This is included in the accounts when receivable.
Investment Gains and Losses
This included any gain or loss on the sale of investments and any gain or loss resulting from revaluing investments to market value at the end of the year.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (continued) FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2023
12. STAFF COSTS AND NUMBERS
The Charity employed no members of staff during this or the previous financial period.
13. TRUSTEES AND OTHER RELATED PARTIES
No payments were made to trustees or any persons connected with them during this financial period. No material transaction took place between the organisation and a trustee or any person connected with them.
14. RISK ASSESSMENT
The Trustees actively review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that maintaining the free reserves stated, combined with the annual review of the controls over key financial systems carried out on an annual basis will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The Trustees have also examined other operational and business risks which they face and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate the significant risks.
15. RESERVES POLICY
The Trustees have considered the level of reserves they wish to retain, appropriate to the CIO's needs. This is based on the CIO's size and the level of financial commitments held. The Trustees aim to ensure the CIO will be able to continue to fulfil its charitable objectives even if there is a temporary shortfall in income or unexpected expenditure. The Trustees will endeavour not to set aside funds unnecessarily.
16. PUBLIC BENEFIT
The CIO acknowledges its requirement to demonstrate clearly that it must have charitable purposes or ‘aims’ that are for the public benefit. Details of how the CIO has achieved this are provided in the Trustees report. The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit before deciding what activities the CIO should undertake.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS
Report to the trustees/ members of LitdriveUK on the accounts for the year ended 31st December 2023 set out on pages 16 to 22.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
-
follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
-
state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect, the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act
have not been met; or
- to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
