We thank Bethany for the input and assistance she was able to make whilst a trustee. We contlnue to be supported by local company Ecology Resources on envimnmental matters. The Project was successful with several fundlng applications during the year for the footpath construction and maintenance and for a living history project which is currently in progress. In totsl, £18.534 of grant monies has been received durlng the year. Our Volunteer Manager has managed a large number of work parties throughout the year, implementing our planned projects and keeping abreast of preventative maintenance works to ensure footpaths remain well maintained and accessible. The Trustees have continued to engage widely in the local community. Employees of local companies Berry Superfos UK {fomierly known as RPC Containers) and Heidelberg Materials Cement Ketton {fom)erly known as Hansonl supported our work party volunteers for the construction of 0.3 kilometres of pennissive footpath in September 2023. During the year we had 50 different volunteers {excluding trustees) freely giving their time to help with our events and work parties. A 0.4 kllometre section of footpath in the "angling sectlon" was resurfaced with aggregate during the year, access steps were constructed to the upper footpath behind the"angling section" and wood chippings were laid along the paths in the'western banks" wooded section. Using grant monies, an infomiation board was designed, manufactured and installed alongside a refurbished canal milepost and this was fomially unveiled with a ceremony led by the Rutland & Melton MP, Alicia Kearns. A series of guided walks was run over the summer months. A number of talkslpresentations were delivered to a number of local groups. Those two activities generated donations of £350. The Project has maintsined a team of volunteer Rangers who are active along the canal corridor trimming vegetation, engaglng wlth the public, and reporting issues. The Projecfs websits and Facèbook pagè continue to be important channels for engaging with the local community and have generated a considerable amount of interest in our work. Our Facebook followers now exceeds 1,200. We have also featured in the Discover Rutland magazine as well as several press articles during the year. We continue to work with landownerJ and Rutland County Councll to reallgn a publlc footpath closer to the canal corridor and to protect and promote the canal as a vital ublic reen s ce.
