negative ¢ffect on health is robugL al￿ there is a need for rllore effective interventions to reduce isolation and its health
conscquell¢¢s. ￿earch suggests that the nunthff of over-50s experien¢xug lon¢lin¢ss 15 set to reach two million by
202516. This compares to 1.4 million in 2016n- a 490/0 increase xti 10 ye4n.
Our initiative is a creativr way of tackling tbe 10 billion edible ￿¢￿15 that The W&ste alld Resource Actioll Program
(WRAP) estitnates are wasted by UK hous¢holds each year. Utilisittg howehold food w&ste in this way bridges
¢omtihwty divid¢s, reducing loneliness and isolation BrAd iraproving the health and wellb¢ing of p¢¢)pl¢ aNI planet alike.
We have colltillued to de]iver our home-¢ook¢d ￿￿81 sharitig tnitiative across the Callt¢rbury, Ashforl and Swal¢
D£stricts, and havc just begun developing a new Food Friend cotlltnuwty in M¢éway. The initiative conn¢cts volunteers
(*fio are looking to share extra portio￿3 of their cooked food) with a neigknbour (who would benefjt from a
delicious meal deliver¢d with ¢ompaTry Attd conveL%atioll). often on a weekly basi& W¢ refer to these njatcbes as food
friclldsbips.
Food Friends continu¢ to bc rcfcrr¢d to us through our estsb]ished profrssional ref¢rrAI pathways. from nKmbers of th¢
comtnuntty or by self-referral. Our nKal sharing initiative is high in demattd. There an few orgaDisations tbat de]iver
fa¢e-to-fa¢e scrytces in the ar¥ our network of volunteers hav¢ playcd a vitsl role In supporttng F￿d Fri¢nds
to access the necessary services to ke¢p happy a]]d healthy at home.
Over the past 12 months, we bave proudly supp)rted 114 Food Friendsbips, delivuing arl ¢5timated 2,775 meals along
with ¢OmPally alld ¢onv¢rsatioL Our meal siwillg initiative has eugag¢d a divme group of i]￿LY]dUal5 who ate
experkencillg social isolation or lonelinesg. The lljajority of our Food FIlet￿S are oveJ th¢ age of 55 or live witb complex
needs and oft¢D far£ challenges such as poor physical or n]ental heaIti liwit¢d ￿0bility, bereavenKn4 or the
responsibility of caring for a loved on¢. These facttsrs have contrlbuted to a sense of di8CQDnection. and thtougb ow
]nitiatsve. we have worked to provfide nThllinEfi￿ support con4)anionship.
We hosted ttvo large-scale ¢omtwrity lunehes, briwg togetber more thau 180 members of our Food Fri¢nd
to share tbeir experiences and fosfer ￿D￿tetI0￿. For many. this was an opportunity ￿ 1¢2ve their
homes-something tb￿ don't typically do. However, witb the support of their d¢dicated volunteers, tbey felt CODfident
and empowered to join in Ib¢ gathcring.
We enhanced ow volunteer suptth and impa¢t lly)lliioritig by I8￿b]ng our fiTSt-ever volullfeer fonllll and conducting
all allnual Yolunt¢¢r suryey. These iuitiativcs led to the creation of n¢w training opporttwaties atsd aaditionaI supwr4
