Report of the Activities of the Charity, 2020-21
The year to September 30[th] 2021 was a formative year for the trust when some initial finance was raised, the identity of the trust established, policies and procedures created and adopted, and vision and strategy reviewed and amended so that by the end of the period we were ready to actively pursue our objectives from a strong foundation.
Introduction to the work of the charity
Redditch Youth For Christ was founded in 2020 as Redditch Youth 4 Christ (RY4C), with the initial aim of conducting outreach to young people in the Redditch area by means of an intern scheme. In 2021 our name was changed to Redditch Youth For Christ following the trustees decision for the charity to be a local centre British Youth For Christ. Initial funding has been donated by churches and individuals who believe in the mission of the charity.
The catalyst for RY4C was the violent, drug related deaths of two local youths in the Headless Cross and Webheath areas of Redditch. One of the RY4C trustee’s sons knew these boys well and from this tragic event RY4C (now RYFC) was formed.
Active Response
RYFC was set up as a charity by a group of Christians, from several different Christian churches, to address the spiritual, social and psychological needs of youth in the Redditch area. The vision for RY4C was to begin with an internship programme; but to further the objectives of the trust the decision was made to change tactics and use the money raised to fund a Centre Director to work outside of the existing church structures to reach out to the young people. It was agreed on 14[th] September 2021 that a Centre Director will be appointed, and their recruitment will be the first task of the next period. She/He would be tasked with fund raising, establishment of operations structure, kickstarting the Project, and mentoring any interns that we recruit.
The trustees were initially all men; efforts have been made to diversify the make-up of the trustees during the past year and will continue. A skills matrix was completed by the trustees, that demonstrated strengths in education and youth work. Youth for Christ have indicated that any gaps in the matrix (eg legal, HR) could be addressed by the national organisation. We expected to receive our official charter from Youth for Christ in October 2021.
