The charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

The objects of the charity as set out in the governing document

For the benefit of the public to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural and physical environment to mitigate the effects of climate change by:

a) protecting, restoring and promoting sustainable use of ecosystems worldwide;

b) restoring fragile ecosystems where degradation has taken place by rehabilitation of the natural environment for example by planting trees, restoring grassland, protecting river banks and water catchment areas

c) conserving and sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources;

d) conserving endangered native species of fauna and flora to promote biological diversity;

e) educating about the effects of climate change, ways to prevent and mitigate climate change and live sustainably;

f) promoting and funding research into climate change, the useful results of which will be disseminated to the public at large.

2) To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public by:

a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of resources;

b) the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities;

c) the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.

Summary of the main activities in relation to these objects

Sustainable Climate has given a grant to the Kembea Stove Efficiency Project in Kenya via Myclimate a not for profit organisation with links to the project. The stoves are made using micro-finance loans. The selling of the stoves gives an income to impoverished people, mostly women. The use of the Stoves reduces the amount of firewood needed for cooking and heating thus reducing the amount of de-forestation in the nearby forest area. More efficient stoves reduce fumes and cooking time thus improving the health and increasing the productivity of the people using them, again mostly women.

Financial Review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

At the end of the year the reserves were £ 13,079.99

The trustees continue to consider the most appropriate way of holding the charity’s reserves so that a balance is struck between generating additional funds and ensuring guaranteed funds are available for our charitable purposes. The Trustees will continue to hold the reserves in the CAF Bank account.

Sustainable Climate raises funds from donations from individuals.

Trustees Responsibilities

The Charities Act 1993 requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the trust and of surplus of the trust for that period. In preparing those financial statements the trustees are required to:

1. Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently

2. Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent

3. Prepare financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the trust will continue in existence.

The trustees are responsible for keeping proper records, which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the trust. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the trust and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
