Charity Objectives:
The key activities of the Manchester Sikh Foundation are:
The prevention or relief of food poverty in North West England through:

Emergency food kitchen to cook, serve and deliver hot meals and dry food parcels

Working in partnership with local food banks

Delivering hot meals to people in need

Mobile food van, cooking and serving hot nourishing meals in deprived areas
The advancement of employment, education & health for the Sikh Community by:

Employment workshops, Job Applications CV writing and skills development

Improve education opportunities by work with schools, colleges and universities

Work with NHS and other agencies to improve health promotion and wellbeing
The promotion of religious harmony for the public benefit through:

Raising awareness, mutual understanding and knowledge sharing about faiths

Creating relationships and respect for the beliefs of different faiths and none.

Working together to support religious freedom and preventing hate crime.
Structure, Governance and Management
The charity was formed as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 26 October 2020. The charity is governed by its constitution which is a CIO Foundation. It is governed by its trustees who meet regularly. It is managed by a Board of Trustees, a management team and volunteers.
Progress and Achievements
This last reporting period has been very challenging with the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic but at the same time very successful in the services we have delivered. In summary, we have acquired and moved into new premises, restarted the mobile food operation, massively increased the delivery of hot meals and dry food parcel.
Manchester Sikh Foundation continues to be a totally volunteer led organisation and we have no paid employees. The trustees are truly grateful for the contribution of all our volunteers, without whom the charity would not be able to operate and provide the services to those most in need.

Our key achievements are:

We successfully concluded the partnership with Manchester City and Salford City Council, and DePaul UK charity to feed the residents at Youth Hostel Association in Manchester at the end of June 2021.

We acquired new premises in Beswick, very close to Manchester city centre, which required considerable amount of refurbishment work and complete fit out to meet our needs.

Refurbishment work was completed by our volunteers by donations in kind as the charity did not have sufficient funds meet all the refurbishment costs.

Feedmycity operation went live in the new premises successfully on 5th July 2021 without disruption to any of our services.

We continue our partnered with Stuarts, for delivering hot meals and dry food parcels; they have recently increased their deliveries to twice a week.

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a challenge in relation to both demand for the services and recruitment and retention of volunteers

We continue to provide hot meals 5 days a week and meet the increased demand for emergency dry food parcel 7 days a week

Our mobile food operation restarted in February, two days a week and we hope to extend this service to 6 days a week subject to obtaining appropriate funding.

We have created satellite locations by asking our volunteer drivers to store dry food bags in the boots of their cars to enable them to deliver to people in need in their local area.

We have partnered with several organisations like the Citizens Advise Bureau (CAB), various Housing Associations and Food Banks to provide emergency dry food parcels.

Our volunteer base has increased significantly to meet the demand for our services

We held a very successful Feed My City Peace, Unity & Harmony Event in December 2021. This event focused on food poverty and thanking the volunteers for their massive contribution. The GM Mayor Andy Burnham was a guest of honour at the event.

Feed My City were also awarded the High Sheriffs award event by the High Sheriff Diane Mary Hawkins JP DL personally.

Plans for Future
Our plans for the future are to focus on our current objectives. Also, to enable the charity to grow and expand the services we deliver, as stipulated in our constitution.
We will continue deliver the existing services with greater focus on emergency hot meals and dry food parcel with an aim to respond to all requests on the same day.
We have been able to bring the mobile food van back into service, and we will endeavour to continue and expand this service over the next year.
We will focus on our fund-raising activities to ensure that the charity has a sound financial base to support all its activities and be a sustainable operation.
We aim to have increased focus on fund raising to recruitment of full and part-time staff to manage the daily food preparation and deliveries.
The charity will to continue to support our volunteers training and development needs with special focus on new volunteers.
We have undertaken some surveys and had some information sessions to assess ongoing needs of both the local Sikh community as well as our volunteers. The information received is that there is an ongoing need for health advice and services. For example, in relation to mental health, loneliness and isolation.
We aim to purchase a minibus for FMC to facilitate larger collections of food supplies and tackle some issues raised above.
The charity will also be commencing more of the activities in with aims objects of the charity. Around education, health, employment and religious harmony.
Active engagement with Sikh Community will done, especially focusing around gender and disability needs and our aim is to tackle to address the issues identified.
Work is required and will be priority to update outward looking combinations to improve the delivery of our services by updating our website and social media communications.
Public Benefit
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and the supplementary public benefit guidance for charities whose aims include food poverty, religious harmony and wellbeing of the Sikh Community when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

Risk assessment
The trustees regularly identify and review major risks facing the charity and have where necessary put measures in place to mitigate them.
Financial Review
The charity received income of £52,128 during the period. After expenditure of £30,873, the funds carried forward in reserves as at 31st March 2022 are £25,400(unrestricted) and £3,294 restricted.
Donations in Kind
Feed My City has been very fortunate to have received support from many individuals and local businesses in the form of donations and support for the provision of food supplies, specialist labour for the building work and many other services. The trustees are very grateful and thank each and every one of our supporters. Many have requested to remain anonymous out of personal humility and their desire to do a selfless service without being given any credit or recognition. We most humbly respect their wishes.
We would like to specifically thank the following partners:
AD, Fareshare, Kara, HSK, Newline Imports, Willow Tree Trust, Stuart and many other organisations and individuals for their generous support.
We have received very significant donations in kind adding up to a total £51,000 approximately from volunteers, well-wishers and local businesses. The Board of Trustees of the Manchester Sikh Foundation are very grateful for these valuable contributions which have had an immense impact on our capacity and quality of our operations. The largest contribution was a donation of £15,000 from individual and specialists providing free services and labour to carry out the building work at the new premises in Beswick.

Report to the trustees of Manchester Sikh Foundation
On accounts for the year ended 31 March 2022 which are set out on pages 6 -7. Charity number: 1191992
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 March 2022.
Responsibilities and basis of the report
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: • the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
• the accounts did not accord with the accounting records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
