ANNUAL CHAIRPERSONS REPORT
RSSC
Once again it has been a successful year at RSSC. In January took a team of 9 skiers to Folgaria in Italy for the first Special Olympics National Winter Games. The games were a huge success and the skiers were fabulous ambassadors for the club.
Many medals were won and great sportsmanship was shown. Congratulations to you all. We even had a few TV stars who appeared in the documentary 5 days in Folgaria (BBC iplayer for those who haven’t seen it).
Following the games we had lots of enquiries from people who wished to join the club. We have welcomed many new skiers this year.
In April we learned that Matthew Evans and Cameron de Vial had been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Winter Games in Turin next year. Congratulations to you both and a huge thank you to all those who have supported and helped them to achieve this.
Our race day in June was a great success. Thank you to all who took part and those who volunteered on the day. We raised over £500 for club funds.
Thank you to our athlete rep Isabelle Clarke who has arranged the social events over the last year. These have been a great way to get together for an hour after a ski session.
Thank you to Alistair Jones for arranging a brilliant quiz night which raised £1700 for the club.
As we go into the new year, we have lots to look forward to. A training week in Folgaria and of course cheering our Skiers on in the World Games.
I personally would like to thank the members of the committee who are stepping down this year for all their help and support over the years.
Sue, Jenni and Liz you will be missed at committee meetings, but we hope we will still be seeing you slopeside.
Also thank you to all the coaches and volunteers who give up your time to help our skiers every week. Without your generosity we wouldn’t be the successful club that we are.
To the parents and carers of the skiers. Thank you for your support.
Finally, to the amazing fabulous skiers. Thank you for making this club the best, friendliest ski club in the whole of Special Olympics. The way you help and support each other every week is fantastic. Thank you to everyone who makes RSSC the success it is.
