This is our first annual report since becoming a Registered Charity on 23[rd] October 2020
The Club is a Ski club for people with intellectual difficulties. We run every Saturday 14:00-15:30 at The Hill Ski Rossendale.
During the first 6 months we were either in Tier 3 or Lockdown which meant we were unable to offer any training.
During this time we did manage 3 social skiing sessions and had meetings with skiers on zoom to keep the club member in touch with each other.
Once we were allowed to meet we would help clean the weeds out of the slope so it would be ready once training restarted. This was a lovely way of all getting together albeit at a social distance.
It wasn’t all bad news during this time however as on 25[th] November 2020 we learnt that 2 of our skiers had been selected to represent Team GB in the Special Olympics World Winter Games to be held in Kazan in January 2022. Well done to Cameron de Vial and Matthew Evans.
When skiing finally reopened in April 2021 we had lots of interest from new skiers.
Also at this time Mike Hopkins our Head Coach and founder member of the club resigned due to work commitments. Thank you Mike for all the support you have given to the club. He was replaced by John Vaughan which proved a very popular choice.
Sadly we also learnt that due to the war in Ukaraine the World Winter Games were to be cancelled. Very disappointing for our skiers but not surprising.
We had our first race meeting in October and we came away with many medals.
Sadly due to the rise in Covid cases and the possibility of pre departure swabs meant that we had to cancel our annual snow training week. Fortunately we only lost our deposits.
During this financial year due to the pandemic and various lockdowns we had periods where the club had no income. Reluctantly we decide to increase our fees for the first time since the club was founded in 2011. As always we ask for a suggested donation rather than a set fee. This means that the club is open to all and no one who wants to attend will be turned away because they can’t afford the fee
Our new suggested fees are
£12 week (up from £10)
£40 monthly
£400 annually
The monthly and annual fees take account of the weeks we have no training sessions. Christmas ,Easter, and the Saturday before and during the snow training week.
We did manage to secure a community grant of £2200 to pay for I pads for our members to keep in touch during lockdown. These are now available for the members to loan if needed.
Despite Covid our membership continues to grow. We have lots to look forward to in the coming year including the snow training week and our own race day.
