regularly offer their time to carry out a
wide range of activities, including:

activities in the community
- carrying out administrative tasks
Our volunteers were particularly
supportive of our move to new premises
and gave their skills in decorating,
fitting out and setting out stock ready
for our opening.

2021, supported by grants from Quartet
Community Foundation and the Society
of Merchant Venturers, enabled us to
provide a much wider variety of
resources for creative activities and
play to the North Somerset community.
We attended a range of events during
theyear, providing crafting activities
benefits to society as a
whole.		 while promoting the benefits of reuse
and repurposing rather than buying
new. We supported North Somerset
Council’s Holiday Activities programme
for families with children in receipt of
free school meals by providing
resources to a range of community
groups working on the project, and free
membership vouchers for families. The
vouchers provided families with access
to the Community Scrapstore for a year,
ensuring that children living in
deprivation could enjoy plenty of
resources for creative play.
Autumn 2021 saw many groups start
meeting again following the lifting of all
Covid restrictions, and a steady
increase in membership as they were
delighted to access the wider range of
creative resources that we offered at
minimal cost. Our new location, on a
large industrial estate, meant that more
businesses learned of us and the
services we provide to the community,
and were keen to offer to supply us with
suitable production waste or unsold
goods. Environmentally, this meant that
many tonnes of usable resources were
diverted from landfill for reuse by
community groups, schools, nurseries
and families.

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period		 Para 1.21 The charity’s finances were sound at the
end of the financial year. Although
expenditure exceeded income, this was
due to the need to pay a deposit of 6
months’ rent on our new premises, and
costs associated with the move.
The deposit will be refundable on expiry
of the lease in July 2026.

Independent examiners report to the Trustees of Community Scrapstore North Somerset

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts for Community Scrapstore North Somerset (“the charity”) for the year ended 30 June 2022.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

Independent examiner’s statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or 2. the accounts do not comply with these records

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
