Chair’s Report by Nicola Clegg for period Nov 2022 – end Oct 2023
The established Monday coffee morning group that started in June 2021 continued to grow in popularity and the hours were extended to allow more chatting and coffee time! At the same time local day trips were organised with the help of the community bus, allowing residents to enjoy lunch and shopping time out of the village. To top off activities for the year for this ever-growing group of residents a Christmas lunch that was also enjoyed for 84 residents in a local pub.
In addition, over 80 residents who support BAVG activities attended a private luncheon and dance to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III on the Bank Holiday Monday as part of the national “Big Help Out” day. Many volunteers baked and served lunch, along with local business support made this a successful and memorable day. The BAVG continues to provide support for the local food bank by collecting on their behalf and providing a delivery service for emergency food packs if required at short notice.
To prove how recognised the group has become, the BAVG were proud to win an award in the category ”Connecting People” from the Rural Community Council in November. An accolade not only to the committed trustees, but all the volunteers who make the team proud to be helping the local community.
The BAVG took over organising the community carol concert at the village hall in December and it was a sell-out success with over 150 residents attending raising £780 for the Salvation Army.
A dedicated BAVG allotment team worked hard to create a community allotment with community bays, micro plots, and a children’s play area. The active group also work with local business partners, other charities and provide excess vegetables to the local church veg box.
Working with a local group scout leader, free defibrillator training sessions were delivered to residents of the village that were very well received. This supported the fact there are now five defibrillators in the village.
The BAVG now run eight regular groups on a weekly basis as well as providing numerous gardening opportunities including helping develop a wild garden at the local church St Mary’s and maintaining the gateway planters in the village. Plus, a dedicated team of litter pickers who use BAVG equipment regularly help keep the village clean and have been praised by the local council for making a noticeable difference.
The bi-monthly newsletter publication “Broughton In Touch” continues to be well received and seen as the village newsletter that updates all 4,200 homes with local community news.

We have compiled the financial statements of the company which comprise the Income and Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet from the accounting records and information and explanations you have given to us.
This report is made solely to the charity’s trustees, as a body.
