York Late Music CIO was esiablished under its constitulion on 15 October 2020, irnmediately taking over all of the activities ol its predecessor. Soundpool- a charity created by a Declaration ofTrust dated 26 Aueust 1997 and registered as a charity on 28 March 1998 by the charity commission. Soundpool ceased activities and is recorded as a'Removed Charity, on the Charlty Commissions website. Soundpool's tunds are recorded as beingiransferred to the CIO on 19 July 2023. The new CIO has taken over all of the activities ol Ihe Ori￿nal trust. Presenting annual public concert series. lunchtime and evening, featurlng primarily 20th and 21st century classical mu5icli.e. contemporary classicall. e5peciallyfrom living composers, and includinE a short educational talk or interview at each evening concert. Running educational workshops for sixlh-lorm, undergraduate and graduate composers and presentlng a selection of their woik in public concerts pertorrned by professional musicians. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Review of Actlvltles From October 2024 to lune 2025, we delNered a series of six evening concerts. eleven lunchtime recitals, and related workshops which focus on 'living composers, performed live.. There were over 50 newwork5 perfoimed. Season highlights include virtuoso pianist lan Pace's performance ol Beethoven's Iconic Symphony No. 6 Isaturday 5 April 20251. This continued his innovative The Beethoven Project= a series of concerts featuring each of Beethoven's symphonies as transcrlbed by Franz List. The programme wll also leature Michael Finnissy's EnElish Country funes. We also celebrated the 60th anniversary of poet Edith si￿ell,$ death. Art Sung explored how muslc meels visual art, poetry. and spoken voice. The concert teatured photography, 3d imagery. and video alongside INe performance to explore Silwell's iconic work FaGade. There was music by William Walton, Britten, Erik Satie, and Noel CowarLI. There was also a new work by Hayley jenkins. We continued lo nurture emerging performers- Federico Pendenza Iguitsrl, David Hammond Ipianol, and Nina Kumin Iviolinl and composers- Edward Tait. Billy Ainsworth, and Anna Snow. We endeavoured to tulfil our long-established role of diversity, aiming for a 50-50 split between male and female artis1& We a150 remained committed to programming local and regional composer5-Tim Brooks. Morag Galloway, and Nick Williams, for example, and pertormers-jakob Fichert Ipianol, Micklegale Singers, Nia Rhein Passmore, and Ella Hodgson-Laws. Vital to Yolk Late Music's eth05 is investment and renewal through our educalion outreach programmes. Our partnership with York St john University. York Late Music has continued its development otthe Young AiiisislComp05ers programme. to enhance thelr musical experience through composition workshops and subsequent perlormance5 in the Late Nusic concerts. These workshops were led by professional composefS- Dr David Lancaster and Dr Mofag Galloway- and performers-jelena Makaiova Ipianol on l November 2024 and Federico Pendenza Iguitarl on 31 January 2025. This took place at Millthorpe School in York on Salurday, 27th April 2025. The schools included were.. Knavesmire Primary School, Osbaldwick PrimaryAcademy, Lakeside Primary Academy. and York Music Centre. Flnanclal Revlew The financial statements for the year shows income £25,278 and total expendilure of £25,641, giving a deficit for the year of £363. This is countered by unmatched funding from the previous year brought fonNard. FundinE provided by our sponsors is often for periods svhich do not match our accounting period. Such funding is carried fO￿ard as a reserve, which is reflected in YLM'S bank balance.
