Chairs Report
Introduction
As we reflect on the past year's journey, SIDCN is overwhelmed with gratitude for the unwavering support from its community of members and volunteers. From the active Facebook group of over 2400 members who constantly provide a source of peer support and advice to our dedicated member volunteers that lead the numerous weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc virtual peer group meetings. Your dedication and generosity have been the driving force behind our successes and the positive impact we've made to support the Small Charity sector.
Thanks….. I joined last week and posted the query then. [Peers] replied and I contacted the [Funder] who have explained what they do! Thanks again
We are also hugely thankful to those partners and funders that have supported us over 2022 providing support, partnership, and collaboration enabling us to deliver our mission to connect, strengthen and champion small charities internationally so they are better able to support the communities they serve. With your continued support, we have been able to support our small charity peer-led community enabling members to create lasting change and uplift communities they strive to empower.
Together, we forge ahead, united in a shared vision of a brighter, more compassionate world. Thank you for being the heart of SIDCN's success.
Overview of the Year
Over the past year, SIDCN has achieved key milestones and continued to implement initiatives, all aimed at empowering our community and advancing our cause. These have been delivered under our three core working groups of; Connect, Amplify and Influence.

Connect Working Group
One highlight was the bringing of more dedicated and passionate volunteers who now serve as admins in our thriving Facebook group. This team efficiently manages various tasks, including weekly brag basket posts, vetting new members, addressing flagged posts, and promptly responding to questions, fostering an inclusive and supportive online space. Moreover, recognizing the importance of responsible digital engagement, we successfully devised and implemented a comprehensive social media policy to guide our online interactions.
In our commitment to fostering stronger connections with our members, we continue to organize regular Friday morning meetings, ensuring that our trustees actively participate in gathering invaluable feedback and insights directly from the community. This engagement allowed us to better understand our members' needs and as well as successes.
To enhance membership experiences, we dedicated efforts to redefine the concept of a "member" within SIDCN and to encourage a deeper sense of belonging and greater engagement with our organisation. Furthermore, recognizing the significance of an informative online presence, we began to plan the refresh of our website and the importance of curating new compelling content, to ensure that we provide future visitors with relevant and engaging information about the work and initiatives of our members.

In pursuit of strategic collaborations, we engaged with partners like the Development Engagement Lab, whose enlightening presentation on public perceptions of charities offered valuable insights to our members and enriched our collective understanding of the sector. These partnerships prove instrumental in widening our reach and influence. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to building on these successes and making an even greater difference to our members.

Amplify Working Group
This group undertook a successful review of our existing website that has led to the decision to revamp the site along with the domain name in 2023. Agreeing that it was important to build on the momentum after the impactful #smallbutmightycampaign, which resonated deeply with our supporters and drew new advocates to our work.
Another initiative that brought our community closer together was our efforts to share member stories through multiple channels. We started featuring these inspiring stories on our website, allowing visitors to connect with the real-life impact of our members and their work. Additionally, continuing to create engaging newsletters and social media use to showcase member stories, to foster a sense of unity and empowerment.
These activities have refuelled our energy as a volunteer-led charity, and we look forward to building upon these successes in the year ahead.
Influencing Working Group
One of our key accomplishments was actively representing the SIDCN community at essential Government meetings, such as the Reducing Bureaucracy Roundtables. This provided us with a platform to advocate for positive changes and streamline processes that benefit the communities we serve.
In our commitment to driving global change, we had the privilege of contributing to the 'Shift the Power' research, in collaboration with prestigious international universities, including Manchester in the UK. This involvement allowed us to share valuable insights and contribute to shaping policies that empower local communities for the future. We will continue to educate both ourselves and members on this important global solidarity movement, and encourage new members from across the world, especially those from racialised communities, into SIDCN, to increase the diversity of the voices we represent.
As part of our efforts to strengthen partnerships and collaborations, we proudly represented SIDCN at the Bond Alliance, collaborating with organizations like SWIDN, Hub Cymru, Scotland International Alliance, and CADA. These alliances helped us amplify our members voices whilst working collectively towards common goals.
A significant highlight of our advocacy work was the signing and supporting of a crucial letter addressed to the Chancellor, urging him to prioritize protecting the poorest both at home and overseas while also safeguarding the aid budget. This united call demonstrated our commitment to making a positive difference and advocating for those who need support the most.
These campaigns have fuelled our determination to drive positive change and empower communities worldwide. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our mission, united in our dedication to creating a more just and equitable world for all.

Financial Summary
SIDCN started the year with an opening balance of £306. We received Grant funding of £1852 during the year and spent £492 on operational costs. We held £1,667 in the bank at the end of the year for future charitable purposes.
We are grateful to Bond for their contribution to the running of our organisation enabling SIDCN to begin to plan projects and campaigns for 2023 (including A Small Charity Week event and an upgrade to our website and branding).
A huge thank you to our regular giver. As an Infrastructure support organisation we are especially pleased to receive any gifted income from individual supporters as our services are second tier, directed to supporting small charities directly delivering support, and therefore do not have the immediate emotional appeal that other charitable causes do. Thank you!

Governance
At the end of 2022, SIDCN has a board of 6 trustees, who meet regularly throughout the year to set vision, lead on strategy and, along with the working group volunteers, carry out the aims and public benefit of the charity.
Claire Collins, a founding trustee, stepped down in November 2021. We recognise and thank Claire for all the work she has done and help to get SIDCN established. In July 2022, Elizabeth Bird joined the Board as Treasurer and has played a vital role throughout the last 6 months of joining the team to develop our financial planning, including successfully submitting our first-ever financial account to the Charity Commission (2021 accounts). Whilst a rolling Chair has been used through 2022 it was clear that a formal Chair was required to ensure that the Strategy for SIDCN could be implemented. In late April 2022 Amber Shotton kindly volunteered to work alongside SIDCN to support the implementation of the Strategy. Amber had worked with SIDCN previously, whilst at the FSI, and agreed to project manage upon her return to the sector from a sabbatical. In September 2022 she was asked to join the Trustee Board and agreed to hold an interim Chair of the Board.
Compliance
Trustees are recruited to the board by invite, open advertisement and through our network. Applicants complete a vetting and approval process with the existing board.
Volunteer Appreciation
As a volunteer-led organisation, we are ever grateful for the passion and energy that our volunteers provide throughout the year, whether it is a response to a peer query, supporting a short research project, sharing your skills and knowledge, or regularly hosting virtual peer groups - we thank you for your time and skills.
Partnerships and Collaborations
We want to make a special thank you to Cranfield Trust who have supported SIDCN to develop its strategy in 2022 and create our theory of change too.

Future Plans and Vision
Looking ahead, our members remain at the heart of everything we do, and their input will guide our future endeavours. Priority is given to actively listening to their valuable feedback and suggestions to shape our initiatives effectively. We want to hear from members! In addition to this, several other priorities lie on the horizon. We aim to enhance our digital presence with further updates to the Website and mailing list, enabling seamless access to information and resources. Our commitment to clear and transparent communication will be strengthened through a regular Newsletter, keeping our supporters informed and engaged. Increasing our social media presence on platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter will help us connect with a broader audience, extending our reach and impact. Engaging new supporters and building relationships within the wider sector is integral to our growth and effectiveness.
As we strive to make a greater difference to our members and the world, building organizational capacity remains a core objective, empowering us to address challenges with renewed strength and resilience. We know that this is a continuous challenge for volunteerled organisations and will continue to look for ways to engage more volunteers to support our efforts.
With renewed energy, we embark on the next chapter, united in our pursuit of positive change and a brighter future.
