January 2024
The Youth Charter began 2024 by remembering the Young Lives Lost to youth violence on the streets on the UK & Ireland in 2023, with thoughts and prayers with the families, friends and communities affected.
The month of January saw the celebrations of Martin Luther King Junior Day. The Youth Charter marked the day by sharing the Black Historywise Education Pack which includes Civil Rights. The day recognises the basic democratic right of Voting, for which Martin Luther King Junior said:
We also marked the 82nd Birthday of Muhammad “The Greatest” Ali, whose achievements in the boxing ring and on the streets will forever be an inspiration to the Youth Charter. The Ali 6 Core Principles of confidence, conviction, dedication, respect, giving and spirituality underpin our Social Coaching Values.
Youth Charter Founder and Chair, and Chair of the PFA Operational Board, Geoff Thompson, attended the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) soccer
tournament in Senegal, re-engaging with former professional footballer, Mark Fish, who visited Moss Side with the South Africa soccer team when they played England at Old Trafford in 1997. The end of January saw the launch of the Youth Charter 2023 Annual Report.

2024 SUMMARY
February 2024
The Youth Charter presented at the AFCON Symposium at The Africa Centre in London, with the centre showing tournament matches through January and February, as it celebrated its 60th Anniversary.
In February, the Youth Charter met with the Learning Planet Alliance in Paris with a view to partnering with them in the lead up to and beyond the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. The aim was to share the Youth Charter Community Campus and Social Coach Leadership programme that can be replicated in the areas of historical deprivation and disadvantage of Paris Games Legacy and its contribution to the post-riots regeneration and renewal masterplan.
The Youth Charter marked Race Equality Week 2024 with a theme of
ListenActChange, which provided the opportunity to share our Black History Education Pack which celebrates the contributions of sport, art and culture in breaking down barriers, bringing people together, celebrating diversity and promoting peace…
The Youth Charter also co-hosted and supported the delivery of the Youth in the Perspective of the Olympic Movement Conference with the Transilvania University of Brasov, and presented the Youth Charter Community Campus, Social Coach Leadership Programme and Project Greatness.

March 2024
As a Board Member of HMC (Headmasters Conference) Geoff Thompson visited a number of schools to work on our collaboration between Independent and State Schools to improve access to Sport, Art and Cultural Activities. This saw his first visit of the year to St Paul’s School in London, which is renowned for producing Team GB Rowers.
As part of our ongoing contributions to Government Policy for young people and communities, the Youth Charter made a submission to the MP’s Youth Work Review, outlining the YC 2019 Youth Manifesto and National Call 2 Action, with an additional call for a Youthwise Citizenship Reward System to promote active citizenship and positive community contributions.
The Youth Charter celebrated International Women's Day 2024 with the theme of ‘Let’s Inspire Inclusion’ looking to elevate women and girl’s participation and achievement in sport. AThe Youth Charter recognised the annual UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on 6th April and the contributions of the sporting ecosystem to building a better world, as we aim to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The Youth Charter has been part of this journey since its launch 1993, when the United Nations General Assembly passed its first Olympic and Sport Resolutions. This year the world will be reunited through the Olympic and Paralympics in Paris with 100 days to go marked by Youth Charter Founder and Chair, Geoff Thompson, in celebration of Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité – A legacy of the Age of Enlightenment, which first appeared during the French Revolution – meaning Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.
Earth Day 2024 highlighted Planet vs Plastic environmental challenge for our 21st Century Global Society, with the goal of a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040, and an aim that the Youth Charter wholeheartedly supports, through our FREE Carbonwise Education Pack.
UK Coaching Week 2024 was held at the end of April/start of May, with the Youth Charter sharing the Social Coaching Values and Skill Sets through a series of videos, please see:

Youth Charter presented at the S.T.O.P Conference in Wolverhampton – Stop Traumatising Our People, A Restorative Approach. This was followed by the 4th Anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, which sparked global Black Lives Matter protests that engaged generations young and old from all social
backgrounds in a reflection of the legacy of Colonialism and Slavery globally.
The Youth Charter remembered Founding Trustee and former chair, David Allen, who sadly passed away at the age of 79 in May.
The ongoing challenges of racism in British society came to surface again in some sections of the media and England football supporters, who used a lacklustre pre-tournament friendly match to target black players. The main target was North Londoner, Bukayo Saka, who came on after 60 minutes when the team was already losing. Youth Charter founder, Geoff Thompson, responded accordingly, thanking those who challenged and stood up to this racism. As the Euro 2024 Soccer tournament began, the Youth Charter shared its FREE Soccerwise Education Pack, which uses the ‘beautiful game’ to teach citizenship, rights and responsibilities.

Windrush Day 2024 22nd June Olympic Day 2024 23rd June
Over the weekend of Windrush Day and Olympic Day, the Youth Charter delivered a Family Fun Day with the young people from the Ambition Aspire Achieve youth group in Newham, east London, as part of our BBC Children in Need We Move Fund Youth Social Action project. The day promoted Global Citizenship through Olympic Values, with British global diversity represented in the young and their family heritage. London Borough of Newham Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz presented prizes to the 50m sprint winners with football and basketball among the other sports delivered. The enterprising young people sold homemade jewellery, cakes and refreshments, with face painting lighting up the faces of children and adults alike.
July 2024
Youth Charter ambassadors Marcus Adam, Lutalo Muhammad and Jordan Thompson presented medals at Finals Festival events across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
YC Chair, Geoff Thompson delivered an articulate and expressive talk to pupils and parents at the Chigwell School Speech Day 2024, sharing the values of the role of sport, arts, cultural and digital activities in providing opportunities for young people to succeed in life.

The Youth Charter’s Birmingham 2022 Games Legacy efforts were cemented - with the launch of two full time MRes
studentships in a partnership with Birmingham City University. The students will complete a detailed evaluation of the Community Campus Model and Social Coach Leadership Programme, as part of the Games Legacy.
As Wimbledon began the Youth Charter shared the YC ’22’ Tenniswise Report providing evidence and recommendations on how Tennis can broaden its reach across communities and increase its chance of finding the talent and will to win quality to produce champions of the future.
The theme of Mandela Day 2024 – ‘#ItsInYourHands’ was marked by the Youth Charter, as we
remembered one the agency’s most inspirational global leaders. On the eve of the Paris Olympiad the Youth Charter presented its Global Call 2 Action to the WASD International Sustainability Conference at the UN Headquarters in Geneva. The Global Call 2 Action provides sustainable and games legacy solidarity, hope and opportunity for those who least have the opportunity to benefit for their mental, physical and emotional health and well-being and life chances that the UN Sustainable Development Goals provide.

The Olympic Spirit was in full in force in Paris, as the world united in an array of sporting, artistic, cultural and digital celebration, demonstrating the art of the possible for our 21st Century Global Society within the challenges that can be turned into opportunities through collaboration and partnerships.
As the Paris Olympiad came to an end, the theme of International Youth Day 2024: “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development” aligned to the Youth Charter’s Community Campus Portal with a two click approach to engaging, equipping and empowering young people and their communities.
The Paralympic month of September saw YC Vice President, Dame Sarah Storey set more records as she won three gold medals taking her to a career total of 19 golds, with 30 medals in total, making her the most successful (most golds) and most decorated (most medals) British Paralympians of all time.

Board Member of HMC (Headmaster Conference) and YC Chair, Geoff Thompson presented the Youth Charter’s National Call 2 Action to Independent Schools across the country with the aim of the opening the sport, art, cultural and digital privileges enjoyed by the 7% to the wider 93%, as part of an HMC-ISC Community Campus. This culminated in – the launch of the Interim Youth Charter 2024 Games Legacy Report at the HMC Autumn Conference in Belfast. This report highlighted the racial and social disparities of Team GB and Paralympics GB that continue to persist despite huge investments since 1997. As part this ongoing work Geoff also visited Wimbledon Girls School in London.
The Youth Charter presented its Global Call 2 Action at the ‘Breaking the Silence’ conference in Italy. Breaking the Silence is a research, dissemination, training, consultancy and psychological support body in the sports sector aimed at preventing interpersonal violence against minors and adults. The presentation was titled 'Sport 4 Development as a Vaccine & Antidote in reducing violence in the lives of young people and communities’.

The Youth Charter returned to it birthplace of Manchester for the launch of the Black History Month at Manchester Cathedral, with Geoff presenting the Youth Charter’s past, present and future work in the North West and across the UK. Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, recognised the contribution of the Youth Charter during his presentation and added that Black History would be added to the school curriculum throughout Manchester going forward.

The Youth Charter shared its Black Historywise Education pack in support of this year’s Black History Month theme of Reclaiming Narratives, with the Youth Charter repeating its call for the Black History to be taught as part of the history and citizenship learning on the National Curriculum, all year round and not just for one month a year.

The Youth Charter delivered a SCLP
Workshop with a youth delegation from the Pakistan Prime Minister’s Youth
Programme at the Commonwealth
Secretariat. The delegation participated in Action Learning Scenarios focused on how Sport for Development and Peace can help to deliver the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The SCLP workshop report was shared as the 2024
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) was held in Samoa, with Pakistan’s Chairing of the Commonwealth Ministers for Youth Forum.
The Youth Charter AFCON Soccerwise Report was launched at the Africa Sport Unified Connex Summit 2024 in London where YC Chair Geoff Thompson also shared our Global Community Campus and Social Coach Leadership Programme. The report reflects a 30year journey in the role of football and its social, cultural and economic impact in the lives of young people and communities from areas of historical deprivation and disadvantage locally, nationally and internationally.

The Youth Charter launched its 2024 Seasonal Appeal in remembrance of the 55 Young Lives that had been Lost throughout the year providing a stark reminder of the challenges faced by young people and their communities in the UK and around the world.
Youth Charter Executive Director And CoFounder, Janice Argyle, presented at The Impact Showcase inviting participants to offer spaces for young people to thrive.
The Youth Charter returned to its roots in Greater Manchester to deliver a Bolton Stakeholder Workshop. The workshop was hosted by Bolton School, with local stakeholders including Bolton Council, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, Bolton Arena, Bolton College, University of Bolton, Bolton Lads and Girls Club. An Action Learning Scenario saw partners discussing how Independent Schools could work more closely with Multi- Agency Stakeholders and State Schools, to engage, equip and empower our young citizens.
