MISSION STATEMENT

To relieve the charitable needs of children aged 0-17 who have germ cell cancer and other forms of

cancer.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity was constituted by Trust Deed on 21 September 2020 and registered with the Charity Commission under Charity Number 1191761.

There are no employees and the Trustees carry out the administration.

New trustees are to be appointed by Miss Eilish Flanagan, however applications can be made on authorised advertisement by all trustees. Alternatively, the existing trustee board may make invitations to individuals to become a trustee, which are then decided by majority vote.

The charity is proud to have continued working with The Institute of Cancer Research and the E-SMART trial, focusing on finding kinder and targeted treatments for children with a childhood cancer diagnosis.

Due to the ever changing environment regarding social media, the trustees have reviewed their Social Media policy and developed the existing policy to ensure the governance of the charity is met at all times by all trustees. Given that social media, is one of the major platforms which our charity uses to raise germ cell cancer awareness, we felt as an organisation that the trustees required safety systems to be put in place to protect both the service users and the wider general public.

Public Benefit, Charitable Objectives, Aims and Policy

The objects of the charity are:

  1. To relieve the charitable needs of children aged 0-17 who have germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer by:

a) Supplying gifts and items to those children and where appropriate their siblings;

b) Raising awareness of childhood cancer and working with other registered children's charities to do the same;

c) Providing grants to pay or contribute towards a holiday for such children and their immediate families.

  1. To preserve and protect the physical health of children who have germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer by providing grants for research into childhood cancer and in particular, germ cell cancer.

Reporting Serious Incidents

The Trustees can confirm that there have been no 'serious incidents' to report in the year ended 5 April 2023 as defined by the Charity Commission in their Guidance for Trustees issued 1 March 2012 and as updated 3 May 2018.

Objectives

The general objectives of the charity, as set out in the Trust Deed, have been applied by the Trustees, in order to support Cancer Charities and individuals with cancer. This is achieved by making grants to Cancer Charities and individuals, purchasing gifts and items for children with germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer and fundraising events in order to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

Activities undertaken for the public benefit

The trustee's have developed their roles in regards to conflict of interest within the orgnisation and although none have been identified within the organisation we are confident in our ability on Conflicts and how to approach and manage them should the occasion ever arise.

Aoife’s Bubbles Charity has successfully, continued to benefit the public through the past year by:

Proudly hosting regular awareness stands and distributing GCT & childhood cancer awareness information, being the UK’s only childhood cancer charity to raise awareness of GCT in children. We have successfully held stands in Suffolk, Essex, Kent, Surrey and London.

To continue offering support to the Institute of Cancer Research in terms of providing grants towards the ongoing research, for the EMSART trial for children with childhood cancer, particularly germ cell cancer which falls in to the sub category of solid tumour.

Offering day respite trips for children and their families affected by childhood cancer, we have been able to offer more children respite by means of day trips to fit in with their treatment schedules.

The trustees always act in accordance with the Charities Act 2011, to undertake due diligence to the Charities Comission general guidance on public benefit. The objectives and activities to achieve this are always the forefront of Aoife’s Bubbles Charity trustees delivery GCT and childhood cancer awareness, providing acts of joy and respite to children and their families affected by childhood cancer and having provisions to support GCT research.

Moving forward, as with previous years - it is the trustee’s aim to keep running costs to a minimum to enable funds raised to be spent on supporting children across the UK with a cancer diagnosis and to continue, raising lifesaving childhood cancer awareness – being the UK’s only registered children’s cancer charity dedicated to raising GCT in children. To maintain this and to continue the charities growth, we would like to establish a volunteer, charity drive over the next 24 months by recruiting volunteers to help us to distribute germ cell cancer awareness material, particularly by using our Charity mascot ‘Bubbles’.

Within the last 12 months, Aoife’s Bubbles Charity has been able to adhere to our formal grant making policy and to continue to provide an excellent service to the public, by promoting germ cell cancer awareness in children as well as childhood cancer as a whole.

We have been able to continue working with previous volunteer Katie Putt, who has been an asset to the charity by delivering germ cell cancer awareness stands throughout Essex and London.

Aoife’s Bubbles Charity strives to invest funds, going forwards in our own respite facility – being that of a beach hut for families to use for day respite, taking away travel/ over night limitations and to accommodate children who are, in the final stages of their cancer journey particularly those on palliative care.

Achievements and performance

Aoife’s Bubbles Charity are extremely proud of the achievements throughout the year ended 5 April 2024.

Throughout the year we were able to set up both manned awareness stands and stand alone awareness stands at garden centres, family farm trails doctors surgeries and office blocks through out London, Kent, Surrey, Essex and Suffolk. Enabling the general public to access the awareness information which we have, we like to act in a non confrontational way to ensure the public feel safe in approaching us, and having open conversations about the importance of childhood cancer symptom awareness.

We were able to host, to start the year - a group of 50 nuclear ‘racers’ to undertake a 2km mud challenge, filled with people from the childhood cancer community on a huge awareness drive and also, to provide an outside ‘safe space’ for oncology families to get together. We successfully fundraised through out the day to continue our life saving awareness campaigning.

From this activity we were able to facilitate as huge drop of Easter supplies to Giraffe ward (one of the inpatient oncology wards), with Easter crafting supplies for the children having their chemotherapy over this time, enabling families to make memories together. We also created an Amazon wish list for our supporters to send gifts directly to our Chair, who was able to include these gifts in the drop.

Shortly after this, our founder was able to undertake a corporate partnership training course with Triceratops Training, to continue to grow the charity within the corporate sector.

We have always identified the need for more open discussions around childhood cancer awareness and the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, so we were able to host an awareness walk – starting at Great Ormond Street Hospital – 18 miles to Biggin Hill (TN16) which is where Aoife grew up. We were able to walk through central London and hand out leaflets along the way and talk to the general public whom approached us in regards to our work.

This particular event, helped us to grow our social media presence – which we firmly believe is a productive way to reach one of our target audiences, being that of Mum’s, Dad’s and caregivers to children. Our ethos is never to scare, but to make information accessible should a parent ever need this.

~~y y y g~~ focus being on bereaved Mum’s and Dad’s to children with cancer, we were able to have 100 people in attendance as well as families with children who have had a cancer diagnosis.

One of our dedicated trustee’s, Richard Payne – held a Christmas Chilly dip to fundraise for Christmas 2023 which enabled a huge gift drop for community children and the 3 oncology wards at Great Ormond Street Hospital on Christmas day. We were able to prove 30 gift bags to children and their families over this time period – each with the monetary value of £500.

Finally, we were able to use Aoife’s 8th Birthday on 21st January as a huge awareness drive of both the charity and germ cell cancer in children – with over 30 people walking around Keston Common. This event brought the wider community together to enable engaging conversations about the signs, symptoms of germ cell cancer in children and the great work done by Aoife’s Bubbles Charity.

Financial Review

In summary in 2023/24: Expenditure on Grants totalled £Nil (2023:£4,250). Voluntary Income was £55,906 (2023: £55,329), consisting wholly of donations received. Total funds carried forward were £4,864 as at 5 April 2024 (2023: £4,314), consisting wholly of a cash balance at Barclays Bank Plc.

Having reviewed our accounts and practices, our main source of income is through large and small fundraising events held by the charity. We work on the ethos of helping those who need it without prejudice and expectation of having to fundraise for Aoife’s Bubbles Charity.

Expenditure is solely related to the charitable aims by focusing on GCT awareness in children, being the sole UK children’s cancer charity dedicated to raising GCT awareness.

Moving forward, we will continue on working on building our reserve with the long term goal of having a shop where we can sell donated goods to fundraise for the charity and to ensure our service is always funded.

We strive to continue to be leaders in the field for raising germ cell cancer awareness in children.

To continue plans to work start working towards purchasing our own respite (beach hut) over the next 3 years, to allow us to help more families, green ethos etc, less waste and more funds to enable further projects such as writing awareness training with GOSH for the medical community in particular students.

Statement of Trustees’ Responsibilities

The Trustees have elected to prepare accounts for each financial period which show a true and fair view of the charity’s financial activities during the period and of its financial position at the end of that period.

In preparing accounts giving a true and fair view the Trustees will follow best practice by:

 selecting suitable accounting policies and applying them consistently;

 making judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

stating whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practice have been followed, subject to any material departures being disclosed and explained in the financial statements; and

 preparing the accounts on a going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2024 which are set out on pages 9 to 13.

Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed.

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, I do not express an opinion as to whether the accounts present a "true and fair" view. 1 BASIS OF PREPARATION

Basis of accounting

The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of Investments, in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.

2 ACCOUNTING POLICIES

a) Recognition of incoming resources

All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when the charity is entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.

b) Donations

Donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the resources.

Expenditure and Liabilities

c) Liability recognition

Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources.

d) Charitable expenditure

Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them.

e) Governance costs

Governance costs relate to the costs of the preparation and examination of statutory accounts, the costs of trustees meetings and cost of any legal advice to trustees on governance or constitutional matters.

f) Fund Accounting

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.

5 DETAILS OF CERTAIN ITEMS OF EXPENDITURE

a Trustees' remuneration, expenses and indemnity insurance

Eilish Flanagan, one of the trustees, received remuneration for secretarial services during the period ended 5 April 2024. This is detailed above in the support costs allocated to charitable activities.

No insurance was purchased to indemnify the Trustees against any default on their part.

The charity had no employed persons during the year and therefore no employee earned £60,000 p.a. or more.
