MISSION STATEMENT

To relieve the charitable needs of children aged 0-17 who have germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity was constituted by Trust Deed on 21 September 2020 and registered with the Charity Commission under Charity Number 1191761.

There are no employees and the Trustees carry out the administration.

Public Benefit, Charitable Objectives, Aims and Policy

The objects of the charity are:

  1. To relieve the charitable needs of children aged 0-17 who have germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer by:

a) Supplying gifts and items to those children and where appropriate their siblings;

b) Raising awareness of childhood cancer and working with other registered children's charities to do the same;

c) Providing grants to pay or contribute towards a holiday for such children and their immediate families.

  1. To preserve and protect the physical health of children who have germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer by providing grants for research into childhood cancer and in particular, germ cell cancer.

Reporting Serious Incidents

The Trustees can confirm that there have been no 'serious incidents' to report in the year ended 5 April 2023 as defined by the Charity Commission in their Guidance for Trustees issued 1 March 2012 and as updated 3 May 2018.

Objectives

The general objectives of the charity, as set out in the Trust Deed, have been applied by the Trustees, in order to support Cancer Charities and individuals with cancer. This is achieved by making grants to Cancer Charities and individuals, purchasing gifts and items for children with germ cell cancer and other forms of cancer and fundraising events in order to raise awareness of childhood cancer. Aoife's Bubbles made the following grants to Charities and individuals during the period ended 5 April 2023:

Activities undertaken for the public benefit

Following on from our first submission, we are pleased to continue our working and professional relationship with the Institute of Cancer Research by focusing not only funds, but awareness around the need for greater awareness on the need for childhood cancer specifically solid tumour research for a more targeted therapy.

The trustee's have also developed their roles in regards to conflict of interest within the orgnisation and although none have been identified within the organisation we are confident in our ability on Conflicts and how to approach and manage them should the occasion ever arise.

Aoife’s Bubbles Charity has successfully benefitted the public through the past year by:

Proudly hosting regular awareness stands and distributing GCT & childhood cancer awareness information, being the UK’s only childhood cancer charity to raise awareness of GCT in children.

Funding respite trips in the UK for children in cancer treatment and their families, ensuring that all trips are covid safe.

Supplying birthday gifts to children at Great Ormond Street Hospital while having their treatment as an inpatient on their birthdays.

Supplying the Royal Marsden Hospital playroom with Easter and Halloween gifts to distribute to the children who are in patients over these periods, to enabke familities to make precious memories while receiving inpatient treatment.

The trustees always act in accordance with the Charities Act 2011, to undertake due diligence to the Charities Comission general guidance on public benefit. The objectives and activities to achieve this are always the forefront of Aoife’s Bubbles Charity trustees delivery GCT and childhood cancer awareness, providing acts of joy and respite to children and their families affected by childhood cancer and having provisions to support GCT research.

Moving forward, it is the trustees aim to keep running costs to a minimum to enable funds raised to be spent on supporting children across the UK with a cancer diagnosis and to continue, raising lifesaving childhood cancer awareness - being the UK's only registered children's cancer charity dedictated to raising GCT in children. Making this a top priority moving forward.

The charity also wishes to grow our online presence to ensure we are reaching one of our target audiences, being Mothers, Fathers, Caregivers and Grandparents of children. With vital symptoms awareness, many more parents will have the knowledge on what to look out for to gain earlier diagnosis for children who may have cancer, thus improving UK current diagnosis times for children aged 14 and under.

Throughout the year Aoife’s Bubbles Charity have been able to establish excellent report with the following individuals and have commended them for their valuable input within the charity. Without inspiring individuals who go the extra mile, our charity wouldn’t have been able to fulfil it aims as successfully as it has done so.

Lorraine Mitchell – a bereaved mother, whose son Finn The Phoenix passed away in 2018 to Rhabdomyosarcoma a solid tumour in children. Having such support and guidance from a fellow mother has enabled us to continue to encompass all childhood cancer awareness.

We have been able to maintain and adhere to our grant making policy which was form with the trust deed.

Achievements and performance

Aoife’s Bubbles Charity are extremely proud of the achievements throughout the year ended 5 April 2023.

In May of 2022 our treasurer, Pat Flanagan - hosted a hugely successful abseiling event at the London Orbital at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, recruiting 20 abseilers the event was a huge success both in fundraising and with raising germ cell cancer awareness as we were able to set up an awareness base that the entrance to the Olympic park to speak with the general public about why we were there and was able to hand out information leaflets.

Throughout the year we were able to set up both manned awareness stands and stand alone awareness stands at garden centres, family farm trails doctors surgeries and office blocks through out London, Kent, Surrey, Essex and Suffolk. Enabling the general public to access the awareness information which we have, we like to act in a non confrontational way to ensure the public feel safe in approaching us, and having open conversations about the importance of childhood cancer symptom awareness.

We were pleased and honoured to have been invited back to allow 4 golfers to take on the 101 challenge at The Drift Gold club in East Horsely, with 101 holes of golf being played from dusk until dawn, with many thanks to the management for accommodating our event and participating himself.

Family fun and awareness day, in Maldon – Essex, with an attendance of 500 people - including special invitations to children who have received a childhood cancer diagnosis. We were able to disseminate sign and symptom awareness to every family in attendance and to make links with local businesses who are now happy to support the charity.

Bubbles the charity mascot and Aoife’s pride and joy, her miniature Shetland pony was able to visit palliative children at Little Havens Children’s Hospice and those in the community as a therapy pony, to provide children with the opportunity to access Equine therapy from the comfort of their familiar surroundings. We were also able to introduce Bubbles to bereaved siblings and siblings of children in cancer treatment and/ or on palliative care.

September is a huge month for the charity as it is world wide childhood cancer awareness month and we were able to reach over 100,000 people via our social media platforms with vital life saving childhood cancer awareness information. We feel, that we were able to empower the wider community with childhood cancer awareness.

Following Go Gold September we held our annual Charity ball, at Parkwood Golf Club in Tatsfield and we were proud to host – 10 families of children in palliative care as well as 15 tables of 10 guests. It was our most successful annual ball to date and we were able to provide each family with transport to and from the event, precious once in a life time photographs with a professional photographer and gifts for children and their siblings.

We were then able to host, with many thanks to Lorraine our 1st annual chilly dip in Leigh on Sea, Essex – joint with out 1st annual santa’s grotto (which 5 families of children on treatment attended along with bereaved siblings) which funded our annual, on Christmas day drop to the oncology wards at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Pop up awareness cinema and fundraiser for Aoife’s should be 7th birthday, we were pleased to hold a free pop up cinema in Hadleigh Suffolk on Aoife’s 7th Birthday and we were able to invite 2 local families as well as a hugely successful fundraising evening. This opened many avenues for parents to share awareness of our charity and as such awareness educational material distributed throughout baby groups in Hadleigh, Suffolk to expand and grow our charity and to ensure that germ cell cancer awareness information is constantly reaching new audiences and one of our target audiences being Mums, Dads and care givers.

Financial Review

In summary in 2022/23: Expenditure on Grants totalled £4,250 (2022:£6,750). Voluntary Income was £55,329 (2022: £71,487), consisting wholly of donations received. Total funds carried forward were £4,314 as at 5 April 2023 (2021: £13,368), consisting wholly of a cash balance at Barclays Bank Plc.

Having reviewed our accounts and practices, our main source of income is through large and small fundraising events held by the charity. We work on the ethos of helping those who need it without prejudice and expectation of having to fundraise for Aoife’s Bubbles Charity.

Expenditure is solely related to the charitable aims by focusing on GCT awareness in children, being the sole UK children’s cancer charity dedicated to raising GCT awareness.

Moving forward, post pandemic we would like to build up a financial reserve to ensure our running costs are always covered.

Continuing to work on access to corporate fundraising and by participating in corporate fundraising course to further existing knowledge.

We strive to raise further GCT awareness.

Plan to work start working towards purchasing our own respite over the next 3 years, to allow us to help more families, green ethos etc, less waste and more funds to enable further projects such as writing awareness training with GOSH for the medical community in particular students.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2023 which are set out on pages 8 to 12.

The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed.

1 BASIS OF PREPARATION

Basis of accounting

The accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention, modified to include the revaluation of Investments, in accordance with the Charities Act 2011.

2 ACCOUNTING POLICIES

a) Recognition of incoming resources

All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when the charity is entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy.

b) Donations

Donations are only included in the SOFA when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the resources.

Expenditure and Liabilities

c) Liability recognition

Liabilities are recognised as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources.

d) Charitable expenditure

Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the charity in the delivery of its activities and services for its beneficiaries. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them.

e) Governance costs

Governance costs relate to the costs of the preparation and examination of statutory accounts, the costs of trustees meetings and cost of any legal advice to trustees on governance or constitutional matters.

f) Fund Accounting

General funds are unrestricted funds which are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purposes.

a Trustees' remuneration, expenses and indemnity insurance

Eilish Flanagan, one of the trustees, received remuneration for secretarial services during the period ended 5 April 2023. This is detailed above in the support costs allocated to charitable activities.

No insurance was purchased to indemnify the Trustees against any default on their part.
