## **TRUSTEES REPORT** 

The Vizsla Health Trust was set up in October 2020 and exists to promote and support scientific research into genetic diseases affecting Hungarian Vizslas. Our current focus is Vizsla Inflammatory Polymyopathy (VIP) – and this has been the subject of an ongoing research project. 

In 2021/22 we reported that the University of Manchester would no longer be sponsoring or funding the work and that it had become our priority to engage alterative research interest.  We are therefore now pleased to report that after much discussion there are advanced plans for the vizsla samples, and associated data, to be transferred from Manchester to the Kennel Club Genetics Centre, at Cambridge University. It has been the hugest relief that the work over the last 10+ years will not be lost 

Collection of samples from affected dogs has now restarted but it will take a while for the project to regain good momentum.  We remain hopeful that the research will properly resume and are determined to be ready to support it with further funding 

Last year we described our involvement in the drafting and publication of the Kennel Club’s evidence-based Breed Health and Conservation Plan. It introduced new recommendations on the monitoring of the breed’s most serious and prevalent illnesses.

In line with the Trust’s constitutional objective of providing independent advocacy and advice we will continue to encourage the breed clubs to disseminate accurate and up to date information on the UK Vizslas’ most serious health concerns. We will also be monitoring the progressing of the Improvements set out in the Kennel Club’s Action Plan
