To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing
people particularly but not exclusively older men, within West
Somerset and the surrounding area, from becoming socially
excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially
excluded and asSiStin8 them to integrate into society through the
provision of facilities in which they can meet jointly or individually
to undertake creative, physical or recreational adlvltles, learn or
pass on skills and knowledge and support each other sociallv.
For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded, means being
excluded frorn society, or parts of society, as a result of one of
more of the following factors: unemployment,. financial hardship
yOLSth or old age. ill health (physical or rnentall.
These are the main areas of public benefit arising from the Shed:
To share skills and Interests, swap ideas and pass on knowledge.
• Actively pursue hobbies and pastimes
Work on projects that will aid the community and help develop
a positive sense of achievement.
• Have a safe place to go and relax. drink tea or coffee, disCIJSS
issues. share concerns. talk and have a laugh, knowing they are
among friends.
• Use the machine tools and other equipment in the Shed to
undertake more challenging projects.
• Meet with visitors to and users of the Shed.
Encourage others and promote general physical and mental
well-being.

5(Kial inve5trnent programmes will, at their heart, support would
be users who cannot afford the cost of access to the benefits of
the charty- Additionally social enterprises or charities will be
supported in acquiring resources within the shed's scope.

Achievements and Perfonnance
In October 2022 we had premises Wlth a lease, a floor, ceillng and
lights, and equipment of all sorts. Wonderfully, there were people
who were interested and active in the Shed. But the power
sockets weren't quite in place, painting needed to be done, and
the whole Shed needed to be organised. Policies had been
finalised, and administrative matters were largely concluded.
We appealed for helpers and a group of amazlng workers
resulted, who tackled painting, instsllation of skirtin8 boards, and
many other practical matters. The fire and intruder alarms were
fully commissioned in the year.
In March 2023, theshed wa5 on BBC Tadio, and on 18 March our
Open Day drew in a nice crowd of visitors to see what the Shed is
like, and what we do. It was very encouraging to see our contacts
list swelling with the names of people who want to be involved.
On 15 April the Fixy van carne to lend a hand in recycling, and on
Sunday 30 April the Shed was represented- with one of our
wooden toolboxes on show- èt a thurth service at St Andre￿5,
Minehead, which involved the community, looking forward to
King Charles, coronation a week later.
The Membership register was opened in June with a single
session on Tues from 9.30am - 12.30pm. This has grown with the
addition of sessions on Monday and Wednesday mornings.
Planning perrni55ion for windows has been obtained, and
windows were purchased, instalSation commissioned, and started.
To Coincide with the Home-start open Day next door, The
Minehead Shed held an Open Day on 5 October, and welcomed
more new faces to look around and talk to Shed members. A Shed
Management Committee is being developed, in order that it may
efficiently organise the day-to-day artivity of The Shed. A new
Trustee was appointed in December 2022, and we were preparing
to appoint another in October 2023.
Membership of The Shed grows steadily. It is sat15fying to see the
Shed fulfilling its aims to promote social inclusion by meeting
together to be creative, learn, pass on skills, and support each
other socially. We have continued to make and win funding bids.
and, in addition. Toolstation has sponsored tool sets, and we have
received donated tools of all kinds. We have also obtained two
commissions.

The cash balance carried forward from the last financial year was
£23811, of which £l,(XKI was funds restricted specifically to be

variously from shed operations, membershlp fees and donations
from supporters of the shed.
Expenses for the year was £16984 relating mainly to
commissioning work in fitting out the shed15econd fix), costs
relating to the lease being in place, renovating machinery, legal
fees, a large increase in insurance costs and final work in
providing materials and consumables to enable activities to

A balance of £5573 was carried forward into the next financial
vear, of which £3.486 is funds designated for the completion of
instsllation work and a delayed invoice from landlords.

Amount of reserves held
No reserves policy is in place at present in the Shed. Trustees are
considering the level of reserves in the current year based on
early cash flow forecasts and operating costs.
We have uncommitted fund5 of £2(MXl+ and a secure annual
cash flow well in excess of medium-term operating costs and
commitments. An active recruitment and activity plan 15 in place
which will raise and secure a level of these inputs above our
needs and provide funding for enhancement of provision. The

Shed will continue bidding for funds to grow opacity and
sustsinability.
