Objectives and Activities

To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people particularly but not exclusively older men, within West Somerset and the surrounding area, from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of facilities in which they can meet jointly or individually to undertake creative, physical or recreational activities, learn or pass on skills and knowledge and support each other socially. For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a result of one of more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; youth or old age; ill health (physical or mental). |

These are the main areas of public benefit arising from the Shed: • To share skills and interests, swap ideas and pass on knowledge. • Actively pursue hobbies and pastimes • Work on projects that will aid the community and help develop a positive sense of achievement. • Have a safe place to go and relax, drink tea or coffee, discuss issues, share concerns, talk and have a laugh, knowing they are among friends. • Use the machine tools and other equipment in the Shed to undertake more challenging projects. • Meet with visitors to and users of the Shed. • Encourage others and promote general physical and mental well-being. |

The Charity’s trustees, because of the issues arising from Covid impacts, have addressed its implementation phase by drawing up a risk assessment. | Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Income for the year was £37,000 and expenses of £99.31 (for insurance). Of the £37,000 income, £16,000 is in restricted funds. There are 2 x trustee loans to be repaid totalling £315.33. These relate to the payment of the first year’s insurance and the hire of a van and fuel to collect donated equipment. The loans were necessary as there were insufficient funds in the account to cover these costs at the time. In addition, the services of a solicitor have been engaged for the negotiation of the lease on a premises, with expected costs for this of £1700. |
