To advance the education, for the benefit of the public in the subject of
Taoism; including the cultural arts, science and philosophy of Taoism, in
particular but not exclusively by the holding of meditations, community
classes and producing and /or distributing literature.
Summary of the objects of the
charity set out in its
governing document

Through the year and especially during planning meetings the trustees
have taken into account the guidance issued by the Charity Commission
on public benefit (ref. Charities and public benefit - January 2008, as
amended December 2011).
In accordance with the stated Objectives of the charity, during 2022123
the ITS has supported community classes and workshops throughout the
UK to educate the public on the subject of Taoism.
Focus has been on developing the rental property in Play San Juan,
Tenerife, Spain to act as the Sea Cloud Centre. We have used this as a
base to help increase membership and further our long term aim of
purchasing our own property outright. We have continued our search for
a suitable property to become our UK headquarters and have made bids
on 2 properties, both of which were unsuccessful.

The ITS had a significant push on fundraising this year. Aided by the
attempt to purchase Paxton Hall, Leeds from Paxton Horticultural Society
(charity number 1075700) we were successful in raising over £120,000
towards the purchase costs of Paxton Hall from members and the
general public. We were also successful in applying for, and being
awarded, Department of Levelling Up funding of £236,000 to aid in the
purchase and refurbishment of Paxton Hall. Unfortunately, Paxton
Horticultural Society chose to sell to developers.
These activities are in line with the aims and objectives of the ITS and
have further advanced the education of the public on the subject of
Taoism for the benefit of the public.

Achievements and performance￿:.
This year the ITS have progressed in our aim to establish a permanent
home of our own in the "Sea Cloud Centre" by renting a building in Playa
San Juan, Tenerife Spain which we have refurbished to allow larger
numbers of people to use the centre. We believe this will help increase
membership and aid fundraising to allow us to move from renting to
purchasing our own property in the long term.
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity
during the year
The attempt to purchase Paxton Hall, Leeds from Paxton Horticultural
Society (charity number 1075700) galvanized the membership of the ITS
and we ran several, very successful funding campaigns and
crowdfunders, raising a total in excess of £120,000. We also applied for,
and were awarded, £236,000 in funding from the Department of Levelling
Up to help us purchase and repair Paxton Hall. In order to write this
successful grant bid we engaged with the wider community in Leeds to
enlist support from other charities and community groups, Headingly
Development Trust, the local councillors and MP'S and many more. This
was a very useful endeavour and we now have much stronger links to the
wider Leeds community that we can call on for support in in the future.
We had hoped that, with the funding we had secured, we could persuade
Paxton Horticultural Society to sell to us and for us both to use the
facilities to mutual advantage. We offered to allow them to continue using
Paxton Hall for their charitable work but they declined our offer, preferring
to sell to developers, against the wishes of the local community who had
supported our successful application to register Paxton Hall as an "Asset
of Community Value" with Leeds City Council.
We then looked for other possible venues and bid on a property for sale
by auction by Leeds City Council at Woodsley Green Leeds.
Unfortunately, the property was sold for over twice its Chartered surveyor
valuation, therefore rendering it beyond our means. With no prospective
buildings to purchase we were obliged to return the funding to the
Department of Levelling Up as the funding was time limited.
We are currently investigating other properties for sale as well as
considering long term rental.
To aid with the increased workload we've experienced this last year we
have recruited another trustee.
The ITS is grateful to the volunteers who give their time and expertise
free of charge and who have worked especially hard this year.

charity ("the Trust") for the year ended

basis of report
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carying out my examination, I
have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent

come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that
